Hi, so I'm not a harrie or louie. My sister was a larrie, before she went to college and only listen to indie band. Anyway, I want to share my opinion if its alright. You can totally ignored it though. I noticed that everyone've been very critical with Louis. I dont know if that was inspired by Harry solo shenanigans last few months. Like if I wasn't critical enough than I'll be ignorant or just following the big larrie party line. But, the minutes something could in the least possible way (2)

way be considered larrie sign, celebration everywhere. I'm in a different fandom, but I follow some of Larrie blog and its kinda funny to me. I really think, if by some miracle Harry and Louis communicate in the most miniscule way, then all will be well. Even if he still got the same team/label/image. There will be tons of people here in larrie tumblr world who have been verry vocal with their misgivings so far, suddenly have a change of heart. I talk to my sister about this, and she said (3)I talk to my sister about this, and she said one of the reason why she leave fandom was because towards the end she couldn't see two individuals. But also she obviously thought she's too cool for 1D Lol. So, yeah.. I hope this is not offensive of me. Just want to share. I like reading your post, just to get perspective from different groups. Tbh I really hope my fandom wouldn't ever be this complicated though haha. Thankyou

Just as a note, I’m not sure that people are critical of Louis. I think they’re critical of his team.

I found this whole ask interesting, but the part about not seeing two individuals is what I found really striking. I find it most striking because I’ve noticed it even applies to Niall.

Niall released “Slow Hands” and there were a bunch of Harry- and Larry-centric jokes about it. Like one was two side-by-side pictures of Harry. One had him as Marcel and one had him in the collar in Another Man. It was captioned “This Town vs Slow Hands.” There were a ton of little posts about how Niall wrote “Slow Hands” about Harry and Louis, as if Niall couldn’t possibly have his own fucking sex life that doesn’t revolve around shipping Larry.

I haven’t seen the same with Liam, although I’ve seen people completely dismiss his accomplishments.

But yes, there are a lot of people who only view Harry and Louis in relation to each other--especially when it comes to Louis, as if he’s Harry’s sidekick.

I see, I see. I just meant to say that regardless of whether or not Larry was a thing, I could understand PR trying to juggle how to handle such pervasive rumours without losing brand value. Even the perception of a relationship within the band certainly had effect. But the separation - I mean, as ot4, the only time Niall and Liam ever paired up was when they went to Ryan Seacrest. Which is still 1 more than Louis and Harry did and arguably only because l+h interviews just didn't happen - ever.

Right, but it could also be there was just immense tension between them that was real, for whatever reason. We don’t know.

Going back to the original ask, the phrase that interested me was “was it really there?”

I still think Harry and Louis were/are in a relationship. I think there’s too much shady shit that happened for them not to have been. Plus, Mario Kart, some of Niall’s earliest comments (being their spokeperson, etc), and so on.

But speaking more broadly about the band as a whole, and only partially speaking about Harry and Louis, I am just finding that a lot of what I assumed what true in 2015 does not seem to be holding up in 2017. This is in large part because of Harry and Louis’ behavior (the baiting, Louis’ comments in that interview, the fact that to me Harry’s album sounds like a breakup album) but also from the band as a whole. Finding out from everyone that Harry asked for the hiatus, the band shading him (arguably all the way back to Niall’s comments about man buns being stupid back in October, etc), Liam’s comments, some members not getting any solo offers, Harry’s whole solo thing ready to go (that wasn’t planned in weeks), and so on.

I think what I often see/saw in the Larry fandom was an attitude of “we were still right about ____ and our theory ______, but things changed behind the scenes again.” Rather than thinking that, I’d rather own up to “I used to think ____ because _____, but now I’m not sure I was right.”

Like Irving? Remember when Irving was supposed to save the band? Have any of the blogs who pushed that the hardest said, “Hey, what if we were wrong?” I know a few of the more critical blogs--those of us in this corner, blocked and indirected by those same louder, bigger blogs--have said it. But have any of those bigger blogs? Or it still an attitude of “I was told it was going to happen, something must have changed because there’s no way I was wrong”?

Because it seems like the attitude in the Larry side of the fandom is more “never admit you’re wrong, just layer another theory over it.”

As I said in another post, “this fandom is going to see what it sees. And that doesn’t mean we’re wrong. But it also doesn’t mean we’re right.”

This fandom can keep clinging to layering theories on top of theories, but I don’t know why it’s so dangerous or bad to say “hey, I think theory was wrong” instead.

I do believe Larry was real; I also believe it's ended. I've started to wonder if there ever really was that "tight lockdown" or if "we" (larries) manufactured it and over-employed the idea to justify that we never really saw what we so desperately wanted to see. So much zeal was thrown into non-occurrences and slo-mo "analysis" that concluded with "A-ha!" But was it really there? I look back, out of the Larry bubble, and what I see is often nothing, or a cold fish Harry when in Louis' presence.

My response in only semi-related. In one of my group chats this morning, we were talking about how much of Larries’ beliefs depend on an idea that Harry and Louis want to come out as soon as possible. They were “forced apart” and would come out as soon as possible seemed to be a huge belief, for example. 

I don’t think anyone needs to come out (see my past closeting posts), but I wonder how much of the behind the scenes head canons relate to the idea that they want to come out--when none of us can actually now that.

even with bg+gf larry talk has been rampant so can you imagine w/out? and if he doesn't want to come out right away (which is fine) it seems more practical to use the existing stunts as a closet. and they've been very low maintenance this year. what i wonder is if HL have some agreement on who can come out first. it's unfortunate that they probs will always be saddled with larry even when partnered up with others...

I really, truly wonder, anon, what excuse some Larries would come up with if they started publicly dating others. Some people are so, so set on the idea of some perfect relationship...

The denial and everything is still perfect narrative some are pushing right now when it comes to Larry links neatly to what you asked before: what kind of sign will people accept at pointing to them breaking up instead of imagining a scenario where the sign diedn't matter and they're still together.

A lot of people think of larry like some kind of fairytale, a love against the odds scenario, and I've noticed far too many people look up to this couple they don't even know. It's very strange to rely emotionally on two people you don't know at the end of the day. And they like to forget that having to love essentially behind closed doors can be difficult and it is entirely possible that they could have broken up as a result. That doesn't diminish whatever love they may have shared.

Anon, I agree. I agree a thousand times.

I also would say that even if you know a couple, you have no idea what really happens in their private life. I’ve known people who have seemed happy as can be and then boom, they get divorced and you find out about 19 affairs and you’re like, well. Damn. 

Then there are those couples to seem destined to divorce and yet year after year, they continue on, getting along well enough and you realize that whatever you see, they don’t.

I may be wrong- it happens a lot! - but you seem to be pushing a Larry breakup very hard. You dismiss any suggestions they may be together but shore up anyone who agrees it's over. I don't think you're really on the fence? You're an ex Larrie?

No, I’m on the fence, but if I’m trying to consider all sides, it’s going to mean examining the breakup side possibility more fully since I’ve believed they were consistently together for years. Also, it’s not something talked about in this fandom, so people already get all of the “of course they’re together” arguments. 

Also, I don’t think considering the possibility they broke up makes me an ex Larrie. It makes me a “bad” one, sure, because I’m not throwing rainbow glitter in the air, dancing around and saying “use your eyes and brain and come to your own conclusions!” (Which is code for “you’re an idiot if you don’t think I’m right.”)

So I looked at the last several “breakup talk” posts I made before getting this ask.

One asked why I thought “always you” felt like it could reference a breakup. I write why it could be taken in other ways and am clear on how my own background could be biasing my interpretation.

One was saying the “always you” was about their public lives separating, but I said their public lives have been separate. I don’t think that’s being dismissive, it’s just pointing out that their public lives have only ever been about 1D. It’s not like they were public friends who hung out together. Harry doesn’t even hang out with Niall or Liam publicly. Only Louis. If someone can make an argument for how their public lives now are different than their public lives before, I’m open to it.

Another pointed out that we haven’t seen signs from Louis since the “always you” thing.

One post was about fandom dynamics. Three related to that Dining Table song, and debunking the lie that Harry said it was a collection of stories. (If he has said it was a collection of stories, nobody has sent me proof. Again, I am open to actual proof! But right now this seems like Larrie canon, but with nothing to back it up.) And yeah, the song sounds like a breakup song to me.

One post was mostly about a struggling Larrie, and it was discussion about the fandom’s take on Harry’s promo, and I did mention that that’s part of the reason we’re talking about the possibility of a break up on the blog. Because to a lot of us, the promo we’re seeing (and the music on the album) don’t seem to fit the idea that they’re in a relationship currently. Again, others disagree–the vast, vast majority of blogs disagree. But discussing the possibility of a breakup doesn’t mean it’s happened–it just means we’re willing to talk about it whereas others refuse.

Then there are a bunch of posts where I just posted anons that supported the idea of a breakup. And then more posts about the songs on the albums and discussion about possible interpretations.

So no, I don’t think I’m disagreeing with anyone who says they’re together. There hasn’t been anyone to agree with! They’re not coming to my blog and sending asks. Or if they are, and I ask for clarification (like the one about publicly separate lives with the always you thing), they haven’t come back to explain. Also, saying “yeah, I see your point,” or “hey, you’re right, Louis hasn’t posted anything that could be taken as a sign they’re together” doesn’t mean I’m agreeing they’ve broken up. It means I agree that the posts have made good points. I’m collecting ideas and thoughts, because I’m open to them.

Of course, we all think what we want, and I understand anyone can view they are together or apart without any recent “evidence” of either stance. But if anyone has any signals they’d like to share to support the signs of a relationship, I’m open to it. I know that my anger over that stupid bee tattoo means I don’t count it as proof, and it really seems like Harry is just baiting Larries with the rainbow pin, etc. I’d love some other interpretations or signs I may have missed–especially if they don’t directly funnel money into Harry’s pocket, since what I would consider Harry’s signs of support of Louis dried up last year when he fell off the radar.
