one of my favourite things about steven universe on a rewatch is how you can see the consequences of the abduction arc spread throughout season 5. it was a horrific, traumatizing even for the whole city and everyone acknowledges that. it starts of this domino effect of changes in beach city. nanefua becoming mayor, dewey working at the big donut, sadie quitting her job and joining a band, peedee opening a food truck, lapis leaving and taking the barn with her, peridot now living with the crystal gems, garnet being unsure of her future vision. even the small things like connie getting a haircut. steven wouldn't have even found out rose was pink diamond if it wasn't for the abduction arc. the fandom really hated the townie episodes but they were important because otherwise we wouldn't care about what happened to beach city. we wouldn't have cared about all the people affected. we wouldn't have seen how close steven was to them and how their abduction affected him. season 5 is basically everyone dealing with the aftermath of that arc. the townie episodes weren't filler like the fandom called them at the time, they were important in establishing the status quo so we could see how it changes after this arc.
