One last cigarette before the march
I really enjoy the goofy nonsense weaponstech of 40k. Bolters being mini full auto rocket launchers and melta's superheating plasma to the point of essentially making a micro sun to melt a thing with are the famous examples, but my favorite is the humble lasgun. It's just a laser gun, still strong enough to horrible maim and disfigure people with a single well aimed shot, but it's so easy to power. The batteries for lasguns are the same things that power so many mechanical devices in the imperium. You can plug one of those things on a power drill to do some roofwork, only to then switch the same battery into a lasgun and shoot some heretics. You can fucking power them up by just putting the battery onto an open fire. It's like the very laws of conversion and transmission of energy in the 40k universe are tuned for inflicting maximum horrible violence at any and all times. It's so funny.
Honorable mention: Radguns. Guns that shoot radiation.
Somehow, Darktide manages to sell why Lasguns are superior to the average kinetic rifle like we would use and still achieves it without making said rifles feel like total shit to use.
Autoguns are good, the infantry one feels great to use. Mows down hordes and does decent damage to elites. But the catch is that it's clip size is abysmal, barely 30 bullets in a magazine so you're constantly reloading after a mag dump.
Then you try the Recon pattern Lasgun, the Lasgun Infantry equivalent. And good fucking lord, they're busted in comparison. The Recon Lasgun has virtually no recoil, a mag size that holds enough dakka to make an Ork nod in approval. And it's so bloody accurate, even when hip-fired.
Would a Lasgun from Warhammer 40k pay child support?

This was my first outing in my Praetorian Guard uniform. I was part of the Steampunk Christmas festivities at St Fagans near Cardiff (South Wales).
It was a joint Steampunk party for the Swansea, Cardiff and Chepstow societies.
Uniform I wasn't able to bring my lasgun on site.
