Watched Duel (1971) for the first time. Really good. I feel like the best thrillers are ones where everyday people are put in a situation, and then have to just fairly logically and normally try to handle it. Nice and tense through the whole thing.
I feel like there's some kind point about masculinity in here? The radio program about the emasculated at home husband at the start, and David himself seeming feeling put down for not protecting his wife from another man before, and the titular duel being this big dick car battle, or at least so for the trucker. It's pretty light if it is there, but I found it interesting to think about as it was still on.
Only thing I didn't care for was the internal narration, even though there wasn't that much of it. The whole things based on a book and all, so it makes sense there'd be some, but I didn't really find it necessary. The whole thing is so minimalist it would have communicated enough with just the face acting and camerawork in those parts. Not a big deal, but eh.
Still, definitely recommend it.
