Up until now, it is so easy to presume that Consort Jing is unassuming, practical, and favors honesty and modesty more than the other consorts do. However, ep 37 is when it becomes clear that she also does her part to assist her son, just like the other 1st Rank Prince’s mothers do. And she’s even better at it because her mask is so well-crafted that you can barely see it. 

Additionally, Jing is not very good at the duplicity he just attempted in order to preserve Mei Changsu from interrogation by Xia Jiang. For one, Jing is not given to stand up for someone he allegedly does not know, especially if they are considered suspicious in such a crime (escape of a prisoner)... and particularly if his own patrols are suspected in aiding and abetting. And, Jing’s not guarded of his own expressions, so if his face was being watched it would be a dead give-away. Jing, I love you and feel a sort of kinship with you, but it’s like he’s forgotten that Mei Changsu has considered every possibility and jumped to his defense as best as he could.
