Day 30: Do whatever you want
A/N: It was really difficult for me to start writing this one, because I knew it was going to be my last fic for the hitsuhina month 2018 :'( I don't want to feel so sad, this August has been fantastic!!! Writing hitsuhina fics, seeing your hitsuhina drawings and reading your hitsuhina fics...it made me so happy!!! Hitsuhina every day...life can’t get much better :D So, thank you everyone who participated in the hitsuhina month 2018 in some way!!! Special thanks to @expiredmochi :D Without you, I don't think there would have been a hitsuhina month this year. Thanks also to @momohitsugaya20 and @tinaillustrations for commenting on so many my fics :D It made me feel like someone really read my works and liked them :) And thank you @expiredmochi, @sakura-warrior, @rays-of-fire-and-ice and @alexiethymia for commenting, too!!! Thanks also to everyone who liked or reblogged my fics :D
Warning: I would have liked to write fluff for the last day, but this idea has been in my mind for such a long time, so I had to write it!!!
Disclaimer: Tite Kubo had to end Bleach, but I can keep writing fanfiction forever...
Knees drawn against her chest and arms wrapped tightly around them, Hinamori tried to protect herself from the cold. Not from the cold that radiated from the stone walls of her cell, but from the cold deep inside her. Impossible.
“Hinamori.” His quiet voice startled her from her thoughts. She whipped her head up to see him standing right in front of her cell, his appearance not differing much from the usual, hands in his sleeves and his face expressionless – to strangers. Had Hinamori attempted, she would easily have detected worry in his eyes and on his forehead.
However, Hinamori's mind was plagued by other thoughts. Without noticing, her nails pressed the crescents into the skin of her palms. “Why did you stop me?!” she screamed. Raising his other hand, Hitsugaya stopped a guard who had started hurrying forwards and kept listening to her. His expression didn't change in the slightest – if you've known someone since childhood, you don't need to be a genius to deduce how they were going to react in different situations. Moreover, Hitsugaya was able to imagine how terrible it was to lose a person close to you. Ever since Hinamori had entered the Academy he had been afraid for the dark-haired girl. When he had joined the ranks of Soul Reapers too, his fear had dimmed noticeably less than what he had expected. Maybe he now noticed better dangers he couldn't protect Hinamori from. Like someone who had been powerful enough to kill a captain.
“You know you wouldn't have been able to beat a captain,” Hitsugaya said, unable to suppress a shudder. If he had been any slower...Ichimaru's posture and a gleam in his eyes flashed in Hitsugaya's mind. Could he be Aizen's murderer? If he was, the Captain of the 3rd Division was now watched by other captains. If he wasn't...well, Hinamori couldn't be in a safer place.
“But I...should have...tried,” Hinamori replied, her sentence cut off by sobs that broke Hitsugaya's heart into million pieces. “As his lieutenant...I should have...tried.”
“Open the door,” Hitsugaya told to the guard whose weak objections his glare ended. Quickly, he fumbled the door open and the white-haired captain hurried to the cell. He knelt down beside the shaking figure and hugged her, letting her tears wet his haori. “No, you shouldn't have,” Hitsugaya told her. Had the guard been foolish enough to eavesdrop, he would have been surprised Toshiro Hitsugaya, Captain of the 10th Division, would be able to talk in such a gentle tone.
For some reason, Hitsugaya had never been fond of Sosuke Aizen. Now, however, he had to move aside his own insecurities and doubts to comfort the girl who meant him most in the world. “He wouldn't have wanted it,” Hitsugaya said, managing not to replace the first word with 'I'. “He wouldn't have wanted to you to get hurt for nothing.”
His words didn't seem to have an intended effect. Unsure of what he should do, he let her cry, listening to her halting words and rubbing her back once in a while. If it could help Hinamori, Hitsugaya was ready to be uncomfortable for a moment.
Only for a moment. “Captain Hitsugaya, you should come with us.” Before Hitsugaya even had time to turn, the voice continued, “We searched Captain Aizen's room and found a letter that implied you would be a murderer.”
Against him, Hinamori’s body tensed. Cupping her face, he stared into her widened eyes and repeated, “It wasn't me, Hinamori! It wasn't me! Believe me, please, believe me!” The hands took a tight grip of his shoulders, snatching him up, but he didn't care. His whole attention was on Hinamori, on her pale face and big eyes. Before he lost the sight of her, she stood up. “I believe you, Shiro!” she shouted after him.
