...you should read The Martian. Also, pretty much anything by A. Lee Martinez but I'd start with A Nameless Witch. (There are people writing things like this. They're just hard to find)

Same. I get so tired of this BS. And my friends who constantly tout this sort of thing as The Best Media(TM) -_- No. I want to escape reality. If I wanted to be reminded how shitty the world is and can be, I'd watch the news instead.
I think there’s a place for it, I would get bored if we had endless stories about Good People doing Good Things, but when there’s hardly any other option other than relentless grit and misery, it’s too much for me.
