OJI Blog #9| The Last Day
The blog's title itself is so distressing. Today is February 22, 2018, our last day as work immersionists. I really had a good time during the work immersion and with the people working there. The MHCCL has a very healthy working environment, it was inspiring and comfortable to work with them.
Nevertheless, today was a day for new discovery! Aside from urinalysis, fecalysis and blood typing, they also perform the procedure called AFB Staining. AFB stands for 'Acid-Fast Bacillus'. This method is used in saliva specimens to be able to determine if a patient has a tuberculosis. Tuberculosis is a lung infection caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Mycobacteria are called acid-fast bacilli because they are a group of rod-shaped bacteria (bacilli) that can be seen under the microscope following a staining procedure where the bacteria retain the color of the stain after an acid wash (acid-fast). AFB laboratory tests detect the bacteria in a person's sample and help identify an infection caused by AFB. Nong Noelle discussed the details and terms to us then Nang Justine showed us the procedure.
After all was done, we ordered pizza for them, spent lunch with them and gave them our tokens which are personalized mugs with their names, designed by us. We were pleased for we saw that they were very thankful and happy. After that, although it was the most embarrassing part, it was the memorable one. They made us have an intermission number for them.
For the last time, we gathered and thank them all for all the efforts and knowledge that they shared us. I would really cherish the moments I have shared with these people, they inspired me a lot. It is not only knowledge that they left us but also inspiration and hope.
Thank you our dear manangs and manongs. May you spread your wings and fligh high! See you soon on top! 💕
