The Conjuring: Last Rites has now officially surpassed Terminator 3
Well, well, well. It seems the only thing more unstoppable than a demon from the Warrens' artifact room is the Conjuring franchise's ability to print money. 💰👻
The Conjuring: Last Rites has now officially surpassed Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines at the domestic box office . Let that sink in. A movie about a haunted mirror has out-grossed a film about cybernetic assassins from the future. We truly live in the dumbest, most beautiful timeline.
This fourth mainline installment, which cost a relatively modest $55 million, has now raked in over $400 million worldwide . It scored the biggest global opening for a horror film EVER ($194 million), finally dethroning It . All of this, despite critics giving it a lukewarm 59% on Rotten Tomatoes and audiences mostly agreeing it's the weakest of the main series .
The lesson? It doesn't matter if your finale is a "mostly disappointing farewell" as long as you have two incredibly charismatic leads (shoutout to Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga) and a built-in audience that will show up to jump at loud noises no matter what.
The film is so profitable that Warner Bros. is undoubtedly already scheming on how to bring the Warrens back from their well-earned retirement. Because in Hollywood, no farewell is ever truly final—especially when there's cash on the line.
