Oh God Theories (for entry to dead men network)
If you haven't read the Skulduggery Pleasant Series, shoo. Off with you. go read them, then talk to me. If you have, continue normally.
Okay so you know how there are three trilogies (book 1-3, 4-6, and 7-9)
Well the tone is different for all of them.
In the first, its a children's series, although superior. The humour is witty, the action exciting, and the characters amazing. At the end of the day, Valkyrie is okay, Skulduggery makes a wise crack, and they go have pizza. THs also reflects Valkyries perception of the magical world. She sees it as an escape form her boring life, and Skulduggery as the man who brought her in to the magical world.
And then the end of The Faceless Ones happens and suddenly Valkyrie realizes how much someone could lose being a part of this world.
The second trilogy is all about us falling more and more in love with the characters while also realizing they're not exactly the good guys. I mean, first you have Valkyrie realizing shes going to destroy the world and kill her family, and then she realizes the man she looks up to, her best friend, has done awful, awful things, killed mercilessly, murdered innocents, and she realizes that the separations between good and bad are blurred. This is when the humour gets raunchier, the battles more intense, and one liners more wise cracking. But in the end, everyone's still alive and things are okay.
KOTW was the tamest. The end was pretty crazy, and it involves things such as prisoner torture, dimension travel, and religious espionage.
And then LSODM. Oh damn, this was intense. So much sadness. All the tears. Much betrayal and character death. So all I can say is that with the escalating sadness, of the books, and all those suspicious Derek Landy tweets, Book 9 is gonna be soooooooooooo craaaazy and awesome and awful and sad and cool and I can't even
