2021 Reading Challenge January Week 2
Which feminist books do you recommend?
I don't know if I read anything that could be called strictly feminist. I think the most recent book I read that was seriously feminist would be Bad Feminist by Roxane Gay. I enjoyed it because it was unapologetic, and it also made me think about myself as a woman and as a role model to other women and girls. Now as a boy mom, I am thinking of how I can teach him to relate to women. It is a good book, but it also has some trigger warnings.
Do you have a favorite book series?
My favorite book series changes constantly. It depends on the mood I am in and what I have most recently read. Currently, I would recommend the Winternight Trilogy by Katherine Arden (Russian fairy tale come to life) and The Folk of the Air trilogy by Holly Black (dark YA fairy world). I'm currently still super excited about the Horimiya manga and have recommended it to everyone (daily school life and teen romance angst, written by a guy, a little all over the place because it was a web comic first). It's an anime too but the manga is better.

2021 Reading Challenge January Week 1
What is the first book that you are reading in 2021?
The first book I read is The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden. I loved this book! It's in the style of a Russian fairy tale come to life in old Russia. It drew me in and kept me intensely involved throughout the whole book. I highly recommend it!
「The Bear and the Nightingale」
Do you have a reading goal this year? How many books do you plan to read?
Ostensibly my reading goal is 50 books, but I am also doing the PopSugar reading challenge because I find it to be a good way to discover books I wouldn't normally read. I read a lot normally, so I will just read as many books as I get to!

2021 Reading Challenge January Week 3
Which book(s) have you re-read the most?
Pride and Prejudice and Emma by Jane Austen. I like knowing how things are going to go, how they are going to end, and I still end up discovering something I hadn't noticed before each time I read them. They are good books for when I just want to read. I also re-read the manga Omoi, Omoware, Furi, Furare by Io Sakisaka (once so far) which is a shojo manga about angsty high school love (yes, I have a type). The final book I re-read the most is Hara-peko Aomushi (The Very Hungry Caterpillar Japanese version) by Eric Carle because my son is obsessed with the holes cut into the food the caterpillar eats.
Would you call yourself a bookworm?
Yes, I read constantly. I prefer physical books to e-books, but due to the pandemic I have mostly been reading e-books. I'm still not able to go to the library to check books out and so I borrow e-books from the comfort of my home.
