I've seen a lot abt supergirl's recent storyline for maggie but I'm not watching or following it, what did they do now?
Last ep, the one that aired on monday, featured a lot of Maggie’s background. As you may know, shes played by white italian Floriana Lima. It had been said that tho it was pretty obvious, the character never really stated to be a latinx one (she only said the infamous ‘being a non-white, non-straight….’; which made maggie’s canon ethnicity ambiguous, but it was still lies because the character IS played by a white person & therefore white), but as of last episode it’s made abundantly clear that she’s got latinx heritage on the show; mexican, more specifically.
So everything about her is already problematic enough but then in the last ep, they had her tell her story of how she got kicked out of her house at a young age (14 i think she said) after her parents found out she liked a girl, her father saying ‘she shamed them’ (which is a Very Common thing latinx parents say to their kids for stupid reasons like being gay or whatever). Then they had her dad show up, played by white spanish actor Carlos Bernard, and give this whole speech about the struggles a mexican man endures upon going to the US (they even had him say the word ‘wetbag’ which we all know is a slur & address peole as ‘white’ as if he isnt one lmao) to Maggie.
So they basically had two whitewashed characters talk about latinx struggles while portraying a very big issue that’s within the latinx community. Two people that arent latinx got to voice latinx issues on media yet again & supergirl writers want to praise themselves as revulotionary & progressive
'I love fast john mulaney' i'm fucjiug losing it
so okay this is a joke john mulaney makes in his latest stand up tour because apparently people always confuse him for the flash because he looks like grant gustin and it is my favorite fuckng thing because i love them both a+
i am so fuckin gay for janelle monae
A thought: Salma Hayek and Gael García Bernal as bounty hunters, going after Cassian Andor so they can collect the reward the Empire offers for capturing him and turning him in to Imperial authorities. Also starring, Herizen Guardiola as a double-agent infiltrated in an Empire facility and Gina Torres as a rebel cell leader of Albarrio sector.
