Lathan had just settled in after a long day. He’d worked a double shift then had dinner with his new boyfriend. The older man had an early meeting. Suddenly a loud noise came from across his apartment, making him jump. He looked around for a moment, hoping it had been in his mind. Besides, he was just drifting off to sleep. Could it have been the early start to a bad dream. He sat silently for a moment before finally convincing himself that was what it was. Again he settled in for sleep.
And again he was stopped by the sound, this time louder & much more aggressive. Nervously he chewed on his lip, jumping when it happened a third time. “Fuck!” he cursed, snatching his phone off of the nightstand & going to investigate. As soon as he had it in his hand, it buzzed. Without looking at the screen, he answered it.
“What?” He mumbled, trying to keep his voice down. His steps stalled a few feet from his door. “You’re where?” He tossed his phone onto the couch nearby as he lunged for the door, swinging it open & throwing himself into the man’s waiting arms. “You scared the fuck out of me!”
Malcolm’s raspy laugh left his lips. “I’m sorry, beautiful. I didn’t mean to. Got home & realized you were more than worth being a bit sleepy in my meeting. I figured you must’ve been in your bedroom so I just wanted to make sure you heard me knock.”

His eyes opened & he immediately groaned as they slammed shut again. The sunlight shone brightly through the window on the opposite side of the room. It only took a moment for it to hit him that it was a window he didn’t recognize. He pulled the blanket up over his head as he ran through the night before.
