@It has taken me multiple revamps, re-dos, re-posts, to get to this introduction, and I hope I can stick with this blog; hello, I’m spctacles, but you can call me Clare!

A bit about me:

I’m 16 years old

Incoming senior in HS, class of ‘19

I’m from the US, and I wish with all my heart that I was multilingual

Favorite classes are Music, English, and History

This is a sideblog.  My main blog is @neptvnisms

Interests:

Music, big time, 100%.  I’ve been playing oboe for 6 years and hope to pursue in college.  I’m also in local ensembles and am the student conductor of my high school band.

Reading/Writing.  This blog will probably be a dual booklr and studyblr :)

Watercolor.  As soon as I get the brushes I need, I want be be able to paint more than the color wheel!

Caffeine. If I were kidnapped, the ransom would be coffee 

I also have a cat (sometimes two, it’s weird) so you’ll see her in a lot of my posts :D

Why studyblr:

I have a really big issue with motivation/happiness and getting things done with the most efficiency.  I want to enjoy doing my work and not feel like I’m doing pointless things.  I hope this is a solution.

Goals:

I want to complete study challenges

I hope to find a good organization/planning technique

I hope to make friends!!!  Company keeps me motivated :)

My name is Hadiyah, and I’m a beginner studyblr! I live in London, and I’m in year 11, so sitting my GCSEs in May!

Current classes I’m taking: Maths, English, biology, chemistry, physics, Spanish, Latin, French, geography psychology, and I did my RS GCSE last year and got an A* :-)

Alright so now that I’ve completed the written application portion of college apps, I thought I might share some tidbits of knowledge I collected. I can’t promise they’ll be helpful to everyone, but I know that if I were to go through this again, I would want to know this stuff. Here goes!

It’s ok to say “I don’t want to talk about college.” Really. If talking about college is stressful, then don’t. Figure out what is good for your sanity and mental well-being and stick to it. Your friends and family will understand.

Make a comprehensive college deadline/factoid list. I’d recommend doing this during the summer break before senior year. Even if you haven’t fully narrowed down your list yet, make a deadline list for all the colleges you’re thinking about. Include financial aid deadlines, scholarship application deadlines, interview scheduling deadlines, application deadlines. Figure out how the schools do financial aid. Are they need blind? Need aware? For interviews, do colleges reach out to you? Do you have to request an interview? This doesn’t take more than a few hours in one day but it’s so worth it! I felt a lot calmer once I made my deadline list. I didn’t worry as much about missing deadlines.

Write your “Why our college?” questions first. And start these early! I found that these questions helped me figure out why I wanted to apply to this college. These questions also require a bit of research, so it’s nice to get that out of the way so you can focus more on yourself. Regrettably, I left these for the end and I felt like I had mountains of research to do.

Talk to some current students. Maybe you know someone who graduated high school a year before you that you could talk to. Even an alumni would be nice. It helps get a non-polished, real sense of the school. Be careful talking with alumni who graduated more than 10 years ago, though. Many things can change on campus during that period of time!

Phew! Ok that was long. Good luck! But also know that you will be amazing at whatever college you go to! I have so much faith in you all.

If you could be anywhere right now where would you be?: At this moment in bed... which is right next to me lol

Where would you want to time travel to?: Future would be cool but also scary af... past is also cool but scares me too. I’m scared of every time apparently, I’m even scared of present time.

Fictional character you’d hang out with for a day?: ohhhh my goshhh so many.... Luna maybe... or maybe Gandalf? Decisions decisions...

Return to Studyblr?

Hi Studyblr community! 

I’ve been absent from this community for over a year now, and I think I’m ready to come back. But this time, I want to do things differently. I’m no longer a high school student with the goal of getting into my dream school. I’m now in my second year of college (not at my dream school for reasons beyond my control) and my motivations have changed. 

My methods have changed, too. I’m no longer as interested in having the most beautiful notes or the perfect posts (I never did to begin with). I’m more interested in not spontaneously combusting as I try to work my way through college. I want to showcase the realities of studying and living in college. 

I’m excited to be back; I hope my return will help me refocus and recenter my life. I’d love to reconnect with my old studyblr friends and meet some new ones, too, so please don’t be shy!
