A very silly piece of alcohol marker fanart I did for @laughingnell's epic Winter of Widows fanfic, imagining the story as an otome game with the heroine surrounded by all her romantic options. My original notes read: "From left to right: Lewes (the Unsociable Nerd), Dalton Greyjoy (the secret route's The Enemy Romance), Oscar Tully (the Definitely-Politically-Toxic-But-He-Vibes-So-Well Heir), William Burley (The Awkward Stoic), Ursula (our Heroine), unnamed Braavosi Trader (The Capitalist Heir) and a Dornish prince (The Foreign Cheeky Mystery). Ursula is showing off her fabulous bliaud and a glass goblet while all the other guys are in awe, and a nice array of British wetlands flowers like marsh marigolds, purple loosestrife and ragged robin frame the bottom of the drawing."

I've been on a heraldry kick for the last 36 hours or so. Decided to mock up a House Mires Shield from Winter of Widows by @laughingnell . And then I decided to make a joint shield for Bill and Ursula because thats what people did in the Midieval era. Three versions.

We have a quartered shield, where each insignia is represented in a checkered like pattern. We have a split shield, where you theoretically cut both shields in half and shove them together, but I shoved the Burley white knife over a little to be more readable (I'm sure historically there was a side for the husband and the wife, but google did not give me a quick answer, so I put House Mires on the Left as Ursula is the Lady of her house, and William is just a younger (3rd?) son, and left felt more dominant). Then we have a merged design of just throwing the white knife over the bridge (not as happy with that one.)

If I was going to do another design, I would either have a green shield with the blue triangle over it, and have the knife be red, or keep the blue and green waves and make the upside down triangle red to keep the knife white.

I don't think Ursula would change the design, because I think in the early chapters she mentions her little brother designed it, so I imagine either a split/quartered shield, or just adding in the Burley white knife would be the direction they went.

Artwork I did depicting Ursula Mires from Laughingnell's amazing fanfic WINTER OF WIDOWS, now on A03 and Spacebattles.

When she awoke to a new life in Westeros, Ursula Mires nearly did the smart thing. Only a year away from becoming sworn to the Faith as a septa and being free to live in relative comfort and safety in one of the more prestigious Reach cloisters, she was content with her lot in life. Her advice, slowly fed to her father over many years, had enabled her family to survive the Dance and rise in station. House Mires had its legacy secured, until tragedy struck early that winter. Now Ursula is heir to a floundering House she does not want, in a war-torn land that she must drag out of the mud. Many ladies are in her position in what maesters would later call ‘the winter of widows’.

Only Ursula knows what is coming next, and she’s not sure if her house will survive it.

The artwork was done on Canson hot press watercolor paper, with India ink, gouache, watercolor from a Binney & Smith set from the 1940s, and fountain pen ink (specifically Lichen and Riviera from the Birmingham pen company).

Not sure if you watch much historical sewing YouTube, but Bernadette Banner just commissioned this beautiful overcoat for a regency dress, and it’s got ravens!

I want Ursula to have it, so badly.

I mean, you might really like Baby Driver. It’s been getting some really rave reviews and people seem to be generally liking it and being really nice about it. 

It just turned out that it’s wasn’t for me - which, for a movie about music and fast cars is kinda weird, but sometimes happens
