Ableton-EWI, Setbacks and Workarounds

Just setting up the launchpad and EWI, I thought would be an easy process, but at one point I tried to figure out what was causing these 2 machines to interfere with each other.

First of all, every command you midi-map in Ableton corresponds to either a note or a midi-cc command. So far so good. However, notes are also emitted from the EWI, resulting in that I accidentally armed and disarmed tracks.

Using Automap, I created a new cc-mapping using only the “unusable” or rare midi-commands that I seldom use or at all on the Launchpad Mini. Just to be on the safe side. The button lights up again while playing on the EWI still causing problems of arming and disarming tracks.

I also have interference from my APC40, not allowing me to scroll around inside Ableton because one of the buttons corresponds to yet another cc-command routed via Automap to the Launchpad Mini. (Buttons lighting up while accessing something on the ACP40.) So 2 kinds of interference with 2 different instruments. I thought I almost had my dream-crushed, but I found a solution. A workaround.

Get into the preferences page and look at the “control-surfaces” and deactivate remote on the EWI and APC40 and VIOLA! No more interference. I get light-feedback into the Launchpad and lights corresponding on the APC40 in the way that I could double check that all the arming/disarming of tracks was working perfectly. There are however a small bug that one of my tracks triggers a blue-button (solo) on the APC40, but it all works. I’ll run through another check later tonight to make sure I don’t screw up while adding more instruments later this weekend.

I will be re-recording all the previous covers and some new one so that they are really tight in in the next few weeks once University is done. These are all little fun attempts after like 2 tries of recording and really don't reflect the final conclusion of time put into learning them ^^
