Laura Hollis, freshman
A controversial figure on campus due to both her infamous video diaries and sudden disappearance, Ms. Hollis will be remembered–– at least here at the Voice–– as a martyr to the cause of journalism. Though her application to intern at the Voice was rejected as woefully biased and unprofessional, Ms. Hollis’ dedication to her lost roommate and to uncovering the truth were laudable, even if her inability to effectively communicate led to her tragic death. When asked about her former roommate, philosophy major Carmilla Karnsein laughed bitterly. “She wanted to change the world, and this is how the world repaid her.” When pressed for further comment, Karnstein grew quiet. Her face haunts me to this day. “What’s done is done. We cannot change it.”
