Know what I just noticed?

In the big 24 hours, three episode finale, Laurel is probably the most affectionate person. She hugs near everybody.

In doesn't make her less badass either. No, she can hit a man on the head with a pipe, shoot a bow, and still give affection. And this is considered good and totally normal by the show.

Laurel does this in the heat of battle. She hugs Oliver when she knows there could be people coming at any second.

And she hugs Sara when they just get out of sight.

What is even more is that affection is allowed to give others strength. Her relationship with the two heros, it gives them one tiny amount of solace. They take a deep breath, don't get reckless and keep doing their job.

It's little moments like this that make Laurel Lance my favorite character. Allowed to physically kick ass and yet allowed to be very feminine and affectionate. I mean if you take a look at most of the times Laurel is physically in a fight, it's almost always in heels, and more often than not in a dress or skirt of some kind.

It's that buffy esque quality that I love about her so much.

The finale marked the real turning point in my mind, because she's in a suit and loafers. But even then she was allowed to be a full character who didn't just have to smash things. She got to hug the heros we were presented with who in turn really see her as a hero.
