I know, I know. I haven't blogged in ages. What can I say? I've been busy with all of the things you've been busy with. However, I'm back with an important message. As our library sessions get longer, our skipped Civ Pros creep towards the limit, and our outlines replace our briefs, it becomes increasingly tempting to resort to lounge wear and sneakers. Believe me, I get it. My Lulu spandex are the comfiest items in my wardrobe.
If you're going to ditch real pants and appropriate foot wear, take a page from the stylebook of Professor Graham. She offsets her spandex leggings with an athletic-inspired cardigan and matches her fun spring sneakers with her tank. As much as I claim to hate leggings and sneakers outside of the Johnson Center, I just can't hate this. This ensemble is trendy and groomed enough to be school-appropriate, but still have all of the comforts of sweats and Nikes.
Spotted: Lots of Valentine's Day cuties dressed in their most pink, red, & purple attire for a love-less day of school work. Here are my 10 favorites.
Click through the photos above for my (witty?) commentary.
Happy Valentine's Day, readers! I try to bust out this blazer with my most pink lipstick every year. Shout out to Emily, my interior-designer sorority sister; I stole this blazer from her in college. Six years later, it's still the best thing in my closet.
Today I'm going to scavenge the building for the best festive attire and post a gallery here (between episodes of House of Cards). Beware, I'm a ruthless paparazzi.
Yesterday, Terra was reviewing her boyfriend's Valentine's Day restaurant choice online. She observed that the attire was listed as "smart casual." "What's smart casual?" she asked me. Unfortunately, I did not have these dapper photos of Waymond handy to show her, so instead I gave her a very lackluster explanation.
Waymond exemplifies "smart casual" everyday with a wardrobe of dark jeans, fitted jackets, and urban hipster accessories. He is in the running (with his two best friends) for The Venue Rules Style Award's most coveted honor: Best Dressed Man.
Here are his style tips for you gentlemen looking for a more refined casual. And seriously, take notes. This kid KNOWS.
1. Wear clothes that actually fit you. Jeans should be fitted, not wide-legged. Actually, uber wide-legged jeans disgust me.
2. Great socks make the man. And people notice. Every time you sit down, your pants ride up and your socks peak out. You do not want your old Nike tube socks to be what peaks out.
3. Stop wearing tennis shoes with everything. Grow up. (Wow, harsh. Love it.)
4. Have a signature style. Dress up for yourself, not to impress others. This means you need to know who you are and what you want to look like.
5. My secret is Zara Man. They have great, on-trend, and affordable men's wear. You can buy their clothes online or travel to Atlanta for the store. It's worth the drive.
Katy is actually the cutest person in the tri-state area. Combine her general adorableness with a skirt suit and BOOM: the cuteness level registers somewhere between a kitten playing with yarn and a baby panda opening his eyes for the first time. This is today's LOOK OF THE DAY because Katy trades in her signature leggings/boots combo for a skirt suit with dotted accents. I just love when patterns are consciously put together like a style motif; Katy's pearls complement the polka dots on her blouse and her rounded-toe pumps. These are subtle, yet playful details that make this outfit. Though Katy jokingly pretended to be a flight attendance in the hallway and is cute enough to have been hired by PanAm, her outfit is all high-powered prosecutor. (She will literally lock you up for crimes against fashion. We're talking to you, sweatpants!)
Katy also knows that no fashion statement is worth slipping on an icy sidewalk and risking a broken neck. Pro tip #1: Pack your heels and wear your Uggs back and forth to school. This also keeps salt stains from ruining your matte leather pumps. Plus, there are plenty of empty lockers to stash your extra shoes. (I basically have an entire shoe closet against the back wall.)
