E.1999 Eternal just celebrated its 24th. At the time, they had a feverish string of hits starting with “Thuggish Ruggish Bone” and “Foe Tha’ Love Of $” off of 1994′s Creepin’ On Ah Come Up and “1st Of Tha’ Month” (’95). With some perseverance in finding N.W.A.’s Eazy-E to produce and promote them, and with “Crossroads” seeing release, their name and success were signed to what would be a legendary finish. All (Krayzie, Layzie, Bizzy, and Wish Bone) except Flesh created their biggest single dedicated to their closest friends, family, and their mentor / producer Eazy-E and showed them to be one of, if not, the most melodic, smoothest, and most accurate rap group ever. (On that note, according to Krayzie in an Okayplayer interview, Bone Thugs- would be the only group to collaborate with The Notorious B.I.G., 2Pac, Big Pun, and Eazy-E who have all since passed). The subject of loss and saying goodbye that everyone related to, mixed with DJ U-Neek’s sorrowful, touching, and melancholic sounds that guaranteed tears to even the hardest of hearts, would help Bone Thugs win a Grammy for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group.
“Crossroads” would debut in the states at #2 and reach the top of Billboard’s Hot 100, certifying it double platinum and making it a worldwide hit. Versions with Flesh’s lyrics are also out there, because it isn’t a real Bone Thugs get-together without him.
