@lazarising met someone on the road
It’s eighty-seven degrees and there’s a light breeze. Perfect for windows down, radio up. It’s Take it Easy by the Eagles for Kennedy, reveling in the idea that someone’s sweet love would be all they need to save them. It’s a romantic idea, but once the song was over, they doubted that they’d believe it any longer. Still, with it on, their hair being blown back by the wind while they drive down the interstate and sing at the top of their lungs, it’s everything they could want, everything they could hope for.
It’s this that almost has them crash their car.
To invested in the song, they don’t quite notice how long the line of stopped cars is, they don’t quite notice that brake lights aren’t on because these cars are parked. They don’t quire register all of it until it’s almost too late.
When they do notice it, they slam on the breaks of their old ‘94 Dodge stealth , the tires screeching and leaving black skid marks for several feet while their car grinds to a halt, their chest heaving wildly, their blue eyes huge in their sockets, hands gripping the steering wheel while the track turns over and CCR’s Have You Ever Seen the Rain? starts blaring.
