Winter and Death: Sisters in Arms
A breeze, she blows by my face with her arctic touch; I've never felt a colder caress,
Her fingertips run down my spine sending chills all throughout my body; she puts me in a seasonal state of duress.
Her imposing stature reaches far and wide, her shadow once casted brings about a slow demise,
Autumn's breeze foretells of an imminent death on the horizon, winter and death never agreeing on a compromise.
Leaves lose their vibrant colors and turn a dreary brown; shriveled, they collect in mass along the ground,
So fragile they lay discarded, a nimble step still causes them to crackle beneath our feet, all part of winter's sound.
Ash is what's left of what was once such a lovely leaf, the paradox of life: vibrance and then utter silence when death collects the ultimate wage,
Is there any living organism that hasn't tried to elude, barter or trick death in order to avoid the sickle? Man fears death so much so that he's even willing to contact a sage.
But with all due respect to the sage, no one can truly predict when the sickle shall touch our mortal bodies and stop the living beat that permeates from our heart,
Tis better to welcome death into our homes smiling, accepting our fate and giving thanks for the time we were gifted, rather than to plead at death's feet over why it is that we must part.
Winter carries death with a simple blow of her cyanotic lips, soon most shall perish and the cycle of life will begin anew,
The leaf that danced in the breeze so merrily, so vibrant in personality, soon shall dance again baring her striking green-amber hue.
For now allow winter to embrace my lands, run her icy fingertips along these grounds and usher out seasonal fare,
Allow death to run her sickle along the necks of those that must be collected; from the mortal man to the elusive hare.
Here I shall sit on my rocking chair, coffee placed within arm's length to enjoy at my leisurely pace,
What's that knocking on my door? I fancy death has found the next soul on the list...time to put on a brave face.
