As someone in the ruins of the Little Big Planet fanbase I’m not ready to let go of how under appreciated LBPK is. OBJECTIVELY one of the best soundtracks, decent storyline (in terms of LBP lol), customization options, and REALLY GOOD CURATORS.
These designs are awesome I’m really upset they never made a comeback, ray the wonder turtle is ADORABLE. Surely I’m not the only one right. I’ve heard a lot of LBP fans and friends say they never even touched LBPK and I really just think they missed out. I know the soundtrack opinion is REALLY unpopular because of LBP2 but PLEASE:
HEAVY ON INMÓVIL AND TERRITORIO. Thank you MediaMolecule for always treating Mexico right. You got the idea. #1 🇲🇽🦅‼️
A few months ago I found an EBay listing for a LittleBigPlanet Karting window sign. I have never seen this before so I assumed it’s rare and I took a screenshot.
I was ranting about this to a friend, but I had so much yap I couldn't even fit it into a single Discord message, also wanted to post it here.
When you open up the contents of the Rag Doll Kung Fu DLC via the DLC planet you can notice it gives you a bunch of null items, items that have no icons and display as "new objects" but in reality don't give you anything. Master Sin had his skin go unused and can only be put back on him with texture swaps and hidden duplicates of his outfit item file that has it equipped, unless you're playing on LittleBigPlanet Karting (or I believe PS Vita too), where his costume skin is given, they knew it existed because it appears in all official renders of Master Sin's outfit, how could they have accidentally forgotten to give it out? Same goes for Edna Mode's Skin, she had one readily available and it was even used in renders but she got a generic white knit skin instead, she even had a nose that would've fit perfectly with the skin but they still dropped it for some reason. Edna Mode's skin was also available and usable in LittleBigPlanet Karting.
The icon for downloading Sephiroth displays him with Long Lash Eyes despite not actually being present, Tifa's head render for the pack icon has her in a sinister smirk and not facing straight at the camera, Toy Story 2's costume pack icon has Zurg with his mouth open and for some reason Stinky Pete and Zurg's store icons are just busts, Edna Mode again has a skin she doesn't actually have, the thickness on the Pirates of the Caribbean Costume Pack is not aligned to what the other packs have, the LBP Cap icon is slightly facing the right, the Design a Sackboy competition winners are sorted individually in the LBP2 "my stuff" section, Sports Costume Pack only displays 5 out of the 9 costumes, the tennis woman and the gymnastic girl have disproportionate renders bc of how they place the racket and gym ribbon, the Monster Kit download icon was for some reason replaced with the store icon for LittleBigPlanet 3, the Peace Day DLC only features the head despite having body equipment, Rowlf and Gonzo from the Muppets' items are categorized under the Muppets Pack theme instead of sorted with the DLC they're actually from, likely implying they were intended to be part of the Premium Level Pack instead of individual purchases. Rowlf's store listing only says "Rowlf" instead of "Rowlf Costume", when selecting to see the content of the Muppets Costume Pack 2, Gonzo isn't displayed despite being a purchase with the pack, not even shown in the cosutme list or in the bubble selection when viewed via the DLC planet, Gonzo is instead listed by himself outside of the pack for some reason, the Toro costume is a render of it being worn while walking, the Santa hat and beard and torso are separate purchases, LBP2 launch is the only outfit rendered with brown knit, inFAMOUS 1 Cole is rendered sideways and angry, same with Kratos and Ape Escape costume, but not angry, Sven has a Sackboy costume in LBP2 that's unusable in LBP3 because they broke the license data for it in LBP3.
LittleBigPlanet PSP's launch cap and shirt are separate purchases and don't even work with the game they're for, LBP3 DLC has a ton of oddities where a bonus costume is given by purchasing the full pack, and the fly costume from the animals pack was delisted for some reason, and was the only costume to be priced lower than 0.99, being somewhere around 45c.
The Stranger Pants and Boots are capitalized incorrectly, where they left the boots lowercase, the unused PaRappa the Rapper DLC incorrectly calls the game PaRappa the Rappa, Jayden and Shelby from Heavy Rain share the same pants for some reason, so if you bought Shelby but not Jayden, you got Shelby's Pants, but if you bought Jayden, you'd also get Shelby's pants.
Killer Frost's boots are for some reason leg items instead of boots, several items icons are rendered at an angle despite not needing them, the Saracen Trousers are mapped to the eyes and grown and shrink when you blink, and also cause you to have twice the eyes as it gives you a duplicate set of button eyes, Mystique's eyes are a glasses item and work with regular eyes for some reason, the unused LBP1 Sephiroth costume cannot be used normally without modifying game files as it tries to use the directory of the demo to read the license instead of DLC0, which every other DLC uses.
The shell torso pieces from the TMNT pack are rendered improperly and aren't aligned to the center of the texture. The string used for the LBP3 launch shirt name, description, and theme are all copied from the name of the DLC itself, so it still displays the item as being called "LittleBigPlanet 3 Launch Rare T-Shirt Costume Pack (One Size Fits All)", I believe giving it the longest item name in the entire franchise, the items for Assassin's Creed Revelation's Ezio Auditore mention that it's the one from Revelatjons in every item's name which no other DLC does, not even the inFAMOUS DLCs, where Cole was given two costumes since he got given another one for the inFAMOUS 2 DLC.
The centre DLC bubble for the competition winners cannot be pressed to view the content of the entire pack like every other pack can for some reason, the Cross Controller Holo-Suit eyes aren't used for the Holo-Suit outfit and are for some reason not DLC locked, along with two tracks from the DLC, 'Escape from San Crispin', and 'The Pleasure of Treasure', every Marvel item from LittleBigPlanet 1 are all unified into a singular theme category, but the Marvel packs released for LBP2 are in their own theme categories, the outfit items for the characters released in the The Electric Mayhem Costume Pack all have (From The Muppets) in their display name, which is rendered redundant as they are disclosed as such in their descriptions.
Lots of LBP1 DLC outfits had re-rendered icons for LittleBigPlanet 2, except for The Incredibles, some Marvel characters, some of the Pirates of the Caribbean characters, the Sonic pack, Heavy Rain, and more. The Killzone Helghast Costume has a duplicate DLC available, digital copies of LittleBigPlanet 3 PS4 came with the duplicate DLC, they both use the same icons but have ever so slightly different models, most noticeable in the pants. All characters in the History Costume Pack are misrepresented with brown knit in the Popit despite using white knit in the renders and in the outfit icons displayed in the store and when equipped. The Heavenly Sword Minipack came with stickers, but this is not shown on the store icon, unlike other Minipacks that do.
Jak from Jak and Daxter's costume is repurposed from a scrapped DLC for LBP1, they didn't choose to re-render his icons to not be in 64x64, which is what almost every icon in LBP1 was rendered at, Daxter's skin also reuses the bump map of brown knit, and is the only DLC to do so. The good Lemming Skin has a rendering error, appearing compressed and having a slight but noticeable translucent white background, the Mischievous Lemming skin is of a noticeably lower quality, making it appear blurry.
The icons of all DLC items in LittleBigPlanet PS Vita are heavily inconsistent, some are new renders exclusively for the game, some reuse renders from LBP2, some are clearly screenshots of a player wearing it in game, Jack Jack's outfit icon has an extremely small head for some reason.
In LittleBigPlanet 3, the outfit icons for the competitor winners were replaced with their store icons, and the Valentine's Day outfit was also replaced with its store icon. Tons of LBP DLC items got new renders for LBP3 including unused DLC like the Director costume.
A similar thing occurs in LittleBigPlanet 2 (or 3 I think?), some outfits such as the Santa outfits and the Week 1 LBP shirt are VERY clearly images of Sackbots wearing them on the blank background.
Several DLC costumes and item in LittleBigPlanet 3 have quotes in their descriptions, notable items from the SpongeBob SquarePants DLC, such as Squirdward having "Another day, another migraine..." and the formula bottle having "Ravioli, ravioli, give me the formuoli".
Several LittleBigPlanet 2 costume packs like Emergency Services, United Front Games Costume, The Nightmare Before Christmas Costume Pack, and the Tron packs all have bonus karts that come with the purchase when downloaded for LittleBigPlanet Karting.
LittleBigPlanet Karting and PS Vita have data for the Frozen Costume pack despite not being publicly available, they function properly even having notices for using it when you don't own the pack, they can only be re-enabled with debug tools and license editing.
In LBP3 when viewing the DLC planet, trying to see information on a DLC you don't own will always call the DLC a level pack, even if it was a costume or Minipack, it also will always display it with a Polaroid frame, no matter what.
Both adventure pack DLCs for LittleBigPlanet 3 display on More Stories as regular Polaroids, but when selected instantly turn into the proper adventure map mesh, the DLC packs that display as planets all use the default background instead of using the game's pod backgrounds, even Sumo's Cross-Controller DLC used a story mode pod background. They all do have proper planet decorations, except for the Adventure Time kit, which has no decorations at all.
The Adventure Time kit is one of the few DLCs to license copyrighted music, every song from the pack is copyrighted, including Zombie Loop, making it the only IntMusic to be copyrighted, the only other DLCs that did this were the Muppets Pack with the Muppets theme, and Marvel Pack, which licensed "Abomination Alley" from an Incredible Hulk film, the Adventure Time level description also oddly says "From the Adventure Time Level Kit", only other Kit to do this was Nightmare Before Christmas, not even the LBP1 gallery kit levels did this. The other LBP3 planet DLC's reuse the description of the actual DLC.
The only free more story is Creator Pack 1, the fact that it and MM Music Pack are numbered with 1 implies they planned on making more creator packs and music packs, but they never ever did, and to my knowledge, never even planned on. The MM Music Pack also had its icon re-rendered 3 times, one time with the History Kit song included, one with My Advice 2, and one with the 3 we get in the actual DLC.
The SpongeBob SquarePants Premium Level Pack has two backgrounds, the hub has its own background that even has its own icon and an inventory file, it has no proper name but reuses the store description of the DLC. It consists of a looping background with rocks past the 16th layer with a caustic effect on it.
The Back to the Future theme stinger is the only cinematic track that doesn't match with the rest of the tracks, they all have uniquely designed icons that match with the rest of the tracks, but the BTTF stinger uses a generic image of the Delorian and the title of the film. It is also one of the few cinematic tracks not composed by Paul Thomson, the only others are the Adventure Time cinematic tracks composed by Tim Keifer, one LBP3 story cinematic track by Tobias Lijia, and the cinematic track from the DC pack by Mark Rutherford.
Showdown and MGS1 'Encounter (LBP Remix)' are the only IntMusic to not have a proper icon, instead using stickers from their respective DLCs. The Metal Gear Solid DLC tracks are also the only DLC music to not use apostrophes at the start of their tracks, as they label the MGS game they came from first instead of last. The Paintinator from the DLC is also the only powerup to not describe what it is and what it does in its description, instead opting for a generic "From [X DLC/Theme]" description. The DLC's spotlight light is also broken in LBP2 and 3, post LBP1 you can only edit the radius of the light, you cannot edit the light colour, the fogginess, and more.
The audio file for The Factory of a Better Tomorrow and Industrial Revolution (the remix from Journey Home) have the exact same name, causing problems when both are used, if you go to edit stems in Factory of a Better Tomorrow IntMusic, then go to edit stems in Industrial Revolution, The Factory of a Better Tomorrow will play, but when you close out of it and open it again, it will play Industrial Revolution, same goes vice versa. This doesn't happen with A Little Knight Music and Muerto Concerto because their file names differ from LBP1's IntMusic file names.
Tearaway's Sogport Song is also available in LittleBigPlanet PS Vita, it differs from the rest of the game's tracks as they all don't use apostrophes, this also includes the DC Comics pack tracks.
All Toy Story Pack items that aren't stickers or costume pieces have render lighting unlike any other DLC, they all appear like icons generated by saving the item to the My Objects category, it appears as if the lighting is of the lighting of the DLC's background.
Ice Crusher Danger from the DC Comics pack has a broken hit box in LBP3, when placed, it's danger hit box will jump out of the item, detaching itself, making the ice crusher itself completely safe, but a invisible circle becoming dangerous, killing you with a spike effect.
All dangerous items in the DC pack all have strange names, as if placeholders, such as Crystal Danger, Ice Crusher Danger, and Wooden Spike Trap Danger.
The Monorail Pod Bottom item from the Incredibles Pack got a updated icon in LittleBigPlanet 3 to identity it as a colourable item, but you can only change the colour of the light attached to it, High Beam Mode also does not work on it.
The Little Nightmares Asset Pack comes with costumes, objects, decorations, stickers, and materials, as if it was planned to be a full fledged More Stories or something, I won't count Prehistoric Asset Pack as it's just assets reused from a tech demo.
The Cross-Controller Pack was rebranded to the Sci-Fi Pack in LittleBigPlanet 3, but the DLC is bugged and only gives you the Asteroid 1 sticker, and 2 of the 3 tracks, the rest you have to manually unlock by finding a level with the DLC and pressing cross to open its contents.
The McBess and Andy Gilmore sticker packs are reused stickers from the beta builds of LittleBigPlanet 3 and sat unreleased for about 3 years before being released in 2017. Two sticker by McBess remained in the final build of LittleBigPlanet 3, a mouth sticker with a missing title, and an ungiven bow tie sticker that could be found in the pre-beta revision of Stitchem Manor, both of these stickers were duplicated in the McBess sticker pack. Every McBess sticker is also not sorted correctly because they do not capitalize McBess's name, so it causes the stickers to lay at the bottom of their categories.
The LittleBigPlanet 2 Move Pack is the only DLC to be priced at 9.99, it also has several unused stickers that were nulled and turned into stickers with a generic missing texture to denote that it was cut, all angled stickers of the Move Controller are available as inventory items, but the only sticker you get is Motion Controller 1, there are properly named Motion Controller 2 and 3s but aren't given out, they appear as a sideways Move and a angle of it slightly behind the controller, letting the T-trigger be visible, all other angles exists but have no names, but proper categories, themes, and descriptions, all of these cut controller stickers don't have proper license data and can be used even if you don't own the pack, and therefore can also be used in Paint Mode.
Paint Mode also has data for detecting if the painting uses stickers, decorations, objects, and materials from DLCs the owner of the painting don't own. But this is never used and isn't normally possible due to the fact the tool doesn't natively let you use DLC items.
The Challenges added post launch in LBP3 has a DLC, all levels are locked behind the DLC, and the DLC includes all stickers made for the challenges, including screenshots of the levels strangely. The only way to access the DLC is with license editing, or a hacked in DLC PKG.
The DC Comics Pack has several unused versions of its stickers, costumes, skins, costume pieces, decorations, and more that all don't have proper licensing data, letting them be usable to players who don't own the DLC and can therefore also be used in paint mode.
That's about all I can find and document, have a good day everyone. An especially huge thanks for people who took the time to read all of this!
If I find anything else, I'll document it in a reblog.
