#FBF time, #LongBeach—and today we head to the 1950s. While original photographer is unknown—this photo was originally posted by Ron Whitfield in an LA photography group—their photo showcases a gorgeous shot shows Pine and Ocean Blvd. in #DTLB. To the left, the eastern-most edge of the former Rainbow Pier, completed in 1931 and stretching out from Linden Avenue on the west, arching into the ocean, and taking travelers to the exit on Pine in the east. The pier enclosed what was once the 40-acre Rainbow Lagoon. Standing center right is the famed Jergins Trust Building, one of Long Beach's most iconic and beautiful structures and designed by Harvey H. Lochridge; it was demolished in 1988.

The THUMS oil islands off the coast of #LongBeach are often mistaken for resort islands. Built in 1960s, “THUMS” was an acronym for the conglomerate of oil corporations that operated the islands in order to garner oil. In 1967, each of the islands were named after famed astronauts: furthest to the east is Chaffee, followed by White, Freeman, and Grissom on the west. | Photo: @BrianAddisonLB
The #VillaRiviera at 800 Ocean Blvd. is arguably #LongBeach’s most distinct and appreciated building. Standing at 16 stories, this French new-Gothic masterpiece by architect Richard D. King was completed in 1929 at a cost of $2.75M. | Photo: @BrianAddisonLB
This, #LongBeach, is the third turn in the absurdly creepy tunnel underneath the Breakers Hotel in #DTLB. While it was originally used as an air duct, various tenants have described odd and ghostly happenings occurring near the tunnel, in the boiler room at its entrance, and the abandoned mud bath area that used to host the wealthy back in the day. Halloween might be a bit away but there’s no season for a good scare. | Photo: @BrianAddisonLB
