LBB v LBC

A week (and a bit) removed from my mixed doubles heroics, I made my debut for the club in a local league match, which bizarrely, was against our own club! Leighton Buzzard's B team (LBB) faced off against its C team (LBC) due to being in the same division, so I already knew all but one of our opponents from various sessions. I was part of LBB and partnered with Mike, who I'd played against in the Mixed Doubles semis.

Both teams supplied four players to play two doubles matches each, and as you might expect, LBB took the win. I thought Mike and I played well, but it was a non-contest in all honesty. LBB only dropped 3 games across 3 matches (the fourth was a walkover due to injury), but I was in no mood to be merciful, and gladly took the confidence-boosting win to open my account with the team.

I'm told that LBB is stuck in limbo between Division 1 & 2 in terms of level; we are currently in D2 and this was supposed to be one of the tougher matches, whereas the guys have received similar treatment when in D1. I always prefer to play up to my opponents rather than down, but I'm hoping there'll be some competitive matches somewhere down the line!

What's all this racket?

I joined my local tennis club last month, and have been getting the most out of my investment! I've been playing in various sessions almost every day of the week when work hasn't called, and it's been hugely uplifting to spend so much regular time on court for the first time in years.

The bulk of these sessions are social ones, where the standard is open and understandably lower. They're not the place for me to start bopping down my usual first serves at people, but the whole point of the sessions to is sociliase with and meet new faces, which I've made sure to do. I've even formed a small group with a few others, which was borne from offering to host them at my flat for the Men's Wimbledon final a couple of weeks ago. They all came, and it was a mark of how much fun we were having that the match became background noise for most of the afternoon!

I have also elbowed my way into the weekly advanced group, which is coach-led and of a sufficient standard that allows me to swing freely and fully; I've been quickly made to feel at home with them, and hopefully there's a large pool of potential hitting partners waiting to be tapped!

As if all that tennis wasn't enough, I joined up just in time to enter the internal club tournaments - being keen to up my court time, I went the whole hog and put my name down for men's singles, men's doubles and mixed doubles. I got a rough draw in the men's events, drawing the 2-time reigning singles champ in both, but I have a very handy mixed dubs partner, so I'm quietly hoping for a title tilt in my debut season!

Lost Between The Cushions! 6 Contestants, and a new style + redesigns!!

Marma - She/it - An incredibly shy contestant who can get scared at the smallest of things, she's slowly coming out of her shell though!

Taco - She/they - She's great at challenges due to her physical strength, but is stand-offish to new people and takes a while to trust others!

Leisha - She/her - An outgoing but selfish contestant, she uses Collie to get farther in challenges and to gain and extra vote in the eliminations. She's only dating Collie to use the closer relationship to her advantage.

Perfi - He/him - A spoiled rich kid who is snarky and pompous, he is kind if you get to know him though!

Collie - She/it - A doormat who doesn't know how to stand up for itself. It follows around Leisha and does whatever she asks of it.

Maggie - She/they/it - An inventor who loves to help others with her technology and tries to form an alliance with anyone they can!
