qin nan is def a safest place in the world bf........but he's actually making me think of disability and ableism, in the sense that part of how his attractiveness is built/created/communicated (the architecture of it) is through his able-bodiedness. he runs up flights of stairs and beats up si bei's boss and picks her up and carries her around.
is there a word for the other side of the coin of ableism? a word for like the romaticization + eroticization of an able body? cause this is not something unique to qin nan, like i'd put healer under this category of romantic lead, too. def playing around with a man being The Protector, so able-bodiedness and gender construction + maintenance...
just saw the phrase "genuinely homicidal man" in someone's tags and was reminded of qin nan......
you know. zbb picking women up and carrying them around is a genre i can get behind.
litr does sometimes threaten to tip over into paternalism. the extreme body difference in the casting probably emphasizes this. but it never really does, because qin nan always asks sibei what she wants.
i want to think about the ending more, or rather the big twist in how the story wraps up, cause we swing from using the architecture of a police procedural to full on melodrama, and the story then centers the drama as much on sibei trying to find justice for the violence done to her through the legal and carceral systems as on her and qin nan getting a happy romantic ending through a successful marriage characterized by complete honesty.
crazy that they pulled falling in love after marriage with this show
"she's his religion" romances
tvn happiness
light beyond the reed
