There’s a knock on Liam’s door, & it takes him a moment to peel himself away from his research; though the surprise interruption is welcome, as he’s been sitting at his table, reading through pages & pages of biological babble for hours at this point. Opening the door, he’s further surprised to see Danny standing out in the hallway-- a good surprise, of course-- looking as handsome as always in one of his suits, tie hanging loose around his neck. Liam smiles, wide & toothy.

“What can I do for you, Mr. Rand?” he teases, shoulder resting against the door frame as he slightly leans towards the older man.

Danny’s responding smile & laugh makes Liam’s smile grow. “Just thought I’d stop by & see if my cute neighbor wanted to join me for dinner.”

Liam hums. “I don’t know. I’m supposed to see my boyfriend tonight. Not sure how he’ll feel about me getting dinner with such a good looking guy like yourself.”

“I’m sure he’ll give you a free pass this one time.”

His smile morphs into an amused smirk. “I suppose I can do dinner then.”

Danny smiles, bright & radiant-- the smile that Liam loves. “Good. I’ll see you upstairs then.” & leans in, closing the distance to press a quick, chaste kiss against Liam’s still upturned lips. “Boyfriend.”

Sometimes, Danny just gets a little too carried away & his attempts at showering Liam with affection overwhelmed the younger man. Liam knows Danny’s actions are sincere & heartfelt, but such grandeur is sometimes too much for an orphan kid who had to work his ass off to earn every little thing in his life. Turns out, moving in with Danny without any sort of official discussion was too much for him to handle.

Don’t get him wrong, Liam is beyond happy to be at a point in their relationship where living together is the obvious decision, but just to have it done for him without a word sent him spinning. He knows Danny was only trying to surprise him, but that small part of him that cherished being able to afford his own place for the first time in his life was an important part.

So Liam runs.

Not too far, & not without leaving Danny a message. That he will be back, he just needs some space to clear his head.

He’s back three days later, already home by the time Danny returns from the office that evening, busy cooking an apology dinner for his boyfriend. One that he pulls himself away from as soon as Danny walks through the door, hands gripping his face & pulling him in for a kiss, before either of them can say anything. They can talk later. Right now, Liam needs to touch & kiss his partner.

Danny told him not to stay up & wait for him, but some nights Liam just can’t sleep while he knows the other is out, protecting their city. Especially when there’s been talk on the news lately of goings-on around New York that, to anyone who doesn’t know better, seem like odd events surrounded by even odder explanations. But Liam does know better, knows that Danny & the others are out there dealing with it. & those are the nights Liam can’t sleep & stays up until Danny comes home.

It’s nearly 4 am when Danny comes crawling through the window, stumbling slightly even as he tries to keep quiet, likely to not wake Liam. But he’s still awake, beyond exhausted at this point, & flips on the nearest lamp. A quick sweep across Danny’s body reveals nothing that Liam should be immediately worried about; so Liam meets him half way between the bed & windows, pulling him in for a kiss that helps quickly relieve the tension in his own body. It isn’t long before they’re tumbling into bed, Danny wrapped securely in Liam’s arms as they hold each other close & finally fall asleep.

Bad day barely scraped the top of how both Liam & Danny’s days had gone; nothing seemed to go the way Liam wanted it to at the lab, & Danny had been stuck in meetings all day long with unhappy clients. As usual, Liam made it home first &, knowing Danny wouldn’t be much longer, made the decision that everything else tonight could be put on hold until after they’d had a bath; hot, relaxing, & disgustingly romantic because they deserved it, damn it. Complete with bubbles & candles because they can.

By the time the bath is ready, Danny still hadn’t made it home, but Liam wasn’t worried. His idiot of a boyfriend preferred to drive himself everywhere & traffic in New York was always horrendous. So, snapping a picture of the waiting bath, Liam sends him a quick text.

Undressing & sliding into the steaming water, Liam doesn’t have to wait much longer before he hears the front door open & close, followed by hurried footsteps towards the bathroom. Which causes Liam to smirk. A moment later, an already half-undressed Danny appears in the bathroom, pausing in his movements only long enough to lean down & greet Liam with a lingering, heated kiss, a hand looping around the back of his neck.

“You’re amazing.”

Liam hums. “I know. Now hurry up & get in here so I can properly relax.”

Lazy mornings are some of Liam’s favorites. Days where neither of them have to be up early & can stay buried under blankets & wrapped up in each other’s arms, peppering kisses along bare skin wherever they can reach, & hands wandering innocently across defined muscles & through sleep-tangled hair.

Liam chuckles as Danny nuzzles against his neck, lips dragging lightly across his skin, accompanied by a warm, sleepy breath as the blond yawns. Ducking his head down, lips meet lips in a slow, slightly sloppy kiss. Until mischievous fingers dance across Liam’s ribs, forcing a bubbling laugh to escape him as he pushes Danny fully away from him.
