Frank Harding is another pen-name of Léo MALET. He used this pseudonym mainly for the adventures of Johnny Metal, newspaperman at the New-York World.

Daha ilk bakışta insana aşkı ve tutkuyu çağrıştıran bir eser bu. Göze ilk çarpan kırmızı perde, gergin ve sıcak vücutlar ve sürgüye uzanan eller. 

Esere adını veren sürgü tıpkı resmin bizi içine hapsettiği gibi figürleri içeri hapsetmiş durumda. Perde şekli ve rengiyle birlikte tamamen cinselliği çağrıştırıyor. Kadının sertçe kavranan beli ve erkek figürün kendine çekişiyle aşkın ve tutkunun en iyi yansıtıldığı tablolardan biri bu.

Resim çaprazlamasına ışıkla aydınlatılıyor ve ışık içine figürleri, sürgüyü ve saten yatağı alıyor. Karanlıkta kalan kısımlar ise ilk bakışta göze çarpmıyor. Fakat her biri hikayenin yansıtılışını değiştirecek cinsten.

İnsanlığın yaratılışından beri en bilinen günah sembolü nedir diye sorarsak cevap kuşkusuz elma olurdu. Aynı zamanda tutkunun ve cinselliğin sembolü. Resmi sırıtmadan bütünlemiş. Hikayenin değiştiği kısım ise yere devrilen sandalye ve yerdeki çicek demeti göze çarpınca başlıyor. Bu zor bir ilişki. Reddedilen bir erkek ve gücünü tutkudan alan öfke… Sürgüyle birlikte hepsi içeri hapsediliyor.

Sexton Blake “undercover”

Famed english detective officialy never made it on french ground. Only three titles of Sexton Blake exist in french language, published in the collection “Un Mystère”, but....

...but a french pulp writer named Henri Musnik (1895 -1957) bootlegged Sexton Blake as early as the 30′s and did never stop. Nobody knew it and we had to wait until 2006 to discover and prove it (I have all the necessary proofs). But does anybody care ? Musnik translated and adapted Sexton Blake’s adventures, changed the characters’ names and sometimes (but not ever) relocalized the action. And that’s not all, Henri Musnik served his stuff again many times between the 30′s and the mid-50′s, just changing the character’s names and rewriting part of the stories here and there when it was needed. All in all: great work ! Hats off to Henri Musnik, folks !

Signed Alain Martial ( a pseudonym Musnik used as early as 1936 for spionage pulps), we have here the last issues of Musnik’s Sexton Blake. Seven titles in which Sexton Blake becomes Robert Navarre, le grand détective. Published in pulp collection “Le Verrou” between 1952 & 1956 at Editions Ferenczi.

Another french pulp serie of crime novels covering all styles from whodunit to hardboiled, from rogue stories to master sleuths, including some bootlegged “Sexton Blake”. Mostly french authors but also Leslie Charteris, Peter Cheyney, Harry Whittington....Most of the time excellent novels, always interesting and among the 204 items there were real little masterpieces.

Louis REFREGER “L’ile de la mort” (Le Verrou # 57).

Louis Refreger was a pen name of Leo MALET, the creator of private-eye Nestor Burma. “L’ile de la mort” was later rewritten by Malet who added Nestor Burma in the new version.
