I was answering questions regarding ALAS, and readers wanted to know if there are still ‘normal’ people left in the LN world.
And it made me think about the demands of shelter, if one wanted to escape the Signal Tower’s reach, and I’m thinking in terms of radio waves and VHFs 54 MHz to 74 MHz.
I thought, the Maw might be made of lead, most if not all the ship is lead construct to prevent certain VHF waves from infiltrating the walls and reaching passengers. This would likewise explain why the Maw is out at sea, to further buffer against the waves reaching the vessel aside from its episodic visits to the surface for the Guests.
Absolutely like a doctor giving you an X-ray.
But if you managed to bury a stronghold safe undeground and lined it with lead, and filled that with food... you’d still have issues. Food runs out, and by suggestion, the Signal Tower has been in operation for a very-very-VERY long time.
The Maw is not perfect, by no means. And this is supernatural eldritch VHFs, possibly unreadable to our current instruments, before the world was overtaken by the Signal.
“But what about the Nest?” you might ask. And I will reiterate, we’re talking about ‘normal’ people, who held out against the Signal.
The only ‘normal’ people at this point would be the children, and those lil feral things are absolutely horrendous.
Lead also corrodes in salt water. What up!
