Summer had hit New York hard this year.  Clarke hadn’t quite been prepared for the heat, but that didn’t stop her from enjoying  it. This meant that she spent large amounts  of time in coffee shops. Her favorite shop was  a little hole in the wall place where everyone knew her by name and made her order the  minute she walked in. As she took her order  from the barista today, she grinned and stepped back without looking, promptly running into  the person behind her. Her coffee spilled on  her clothes and book, but she whirled around, apologies spewing from her lips. 

   “Oh my god, I am so sorry.    I am such a ditz sometimes,     are you okay?”

          “So, do you want to go out tonight? I’m                   going to the bar with some friends later                         on — you should come hang with us.”

     It wasn’t like she was impressed that the girl had brought back her cat-from-hell.      Literally, though, she had decided that she had adopted a cat whose mother had       been the head of ‘the lower world‘. But Clarke had noticed the other girl’s moving       in — sometimes she had hesitated on whether or not she should talk to her, since       the brunette seemed rather timid. And, judging from the way their conversation       didn’t seem very lively — Clarke only confirmed her thoughts. Though, she liked       the way her eyes would flicker to and from her own.

Rose stumbled, finding her footing as the bright flash of light vanished, the vortex manipulator on her wrist still buzzing with energy. She took a moment, looking around her. Something was wrong, her coordinates said that this was earth, but it seemed different. She was in the middle of what looked like a village, though things around her were broken and there were collapsed buildings. Forest surrounded it on all sides, but many of the trees were broken and burnt. She pressed a few buttons on the manipulator, but it still registered this place as earth. Only a few moments later, the sound of hooves reached her ears and she looked up to see what looked like an army approaching. “Maybe this is earth after all…”
