Anon #1: They really don’t pay much mind! They don’t see the full rainbow of colors, so its just a small band of yellow and blue which kind of blends in with the rest of the sky. Some cats use them in stories as a bridge to somewhere or a sign of things to come, but no one really believes in any strong myths about rainbows.
Anon #2: Greystripe’s an idiot in every universe, I guess. But yeah, Raventhroat is pretty much the smartest one of the three, which gets blockaded by his anxiety occasionally.
leafiadream: I’m going to try and get some time in before he ascends to leadership, but I make no promises, since a really young cat being thrust into such a position is an interesting story to me. The minimum age is two years, maybe two and a half depending on how long it takes for you to finish training up your apprentice. The youngest was just under two years old, though no one remembers their name anymore!
Anon #3: I mean, I don’t own the concept of rewrites, so by all means, go nuts! If you mean “rewrite the Rise of Scourge to be in this universe”, I’d wait a little so that we actually get to meet Scourge.
time-to-make-those-donuts: A profusion of thanks for your sympathy. Hopefully my computer will behave now. As for your question, if the animal in question has an appearance, there’ll be a prefix for it. Even if they do negatively affect something, a cat can still look like one, can’t they?
Anon #4: Can Mapleshade be the Joker in this AU? I like the idea of makeup translating to tortoiseshell markings.
Bluster finally gets so angry that she grabs Fireheart by the scruff and starts dragging him away, Fireheart starts protesting and struggling, "Why are you doing this," she lets go and whips around and yells "IF YOU'RE GOING TO ACT LIKE A KIT I'M GOING TO TREAT YOU LIKE A KIT", she grabs him again and he goes with her dutifully, no one laughs, everyone is terrified ,
You joke but that is exactly how this would go down.
This... is what I get for going out today. So fuck me, I guess.
Hi, y’all!
thehedgehogshavethetardis: All good! Basically, the cats’ territories are considered a casual (read: not technically official) nature reserve thanks to the unique natures of the animals and their communities. A few people are in charge of observing and making sure the cats are doing okay with as little human influence as possible. It’s actually a very helpful boost to the town’s local economy - people come in to see the weird cats and leave after having bought a ton of souvenirs. It’s an entirely local thing!
bluejay6: Oh, no, not really! All you’d have to do is come up with a nickname or just say “Whitefur of XClan”. The cats are used to prefixes coming and going in popularity, so the addition of a suffix wouldn’t bother them too much.
agathokakological-megabat: (wink wonk)
Anon #1: Well, if I was the writer, I wouldn’t make them have powers at all, just emphasized traits or skills. Lionblaze being a great fighter, Jayfeather being very insightful, etc. I’d definitely make Hollyleaf part of it, if I was to keep the powers. And if I had to keep the Dark Forest, I think I would make it more of an invisible influence - like someone hallucinates visions of evil cats telling them what to do or something similar. That or I’d just make them living cats who want the Clans dead. I do have some more thoughts on this, but I’m keeping it short for the sake of this painfully long post.
Anon #2: Aw, good, man! I’m happy to hear that. I was worried his death wouldn’t sell well, to be honest.
crowfeathertail: Firstly, thank you for the kind words and the excitement about Tigerclaw. I’m doing my best to fulfill my vision I have for him and I hope you’ll like it! Secondly, yes, Pinestar did in fact leave, but he gave no warning and ran deep into the Houses to hide from his Clan... and his responsibilities.
Anon #3: Really, the only way I could see it is if the cats receive nine lives’ worth of memories and wisdom, rather than physical startovers. This could lead to the cats living longer lives and becoming more intelligent, or perhaps buckling under the mental strain of carrying around nine cats in your head. Plus, if a leader didn’t receive those memories, that would create tension in the story as they start to make mistakes no other leader would.
littletreefox: No, I’m in full agreement with you. Even when I was younger, I felt weird about that little addition. I remember my OC leaders not having the nine lives for that reason.
Anon #4: The only real thing is that deputies and leaders tend to be more intelligent than their Clanmates! But that’s just a common coincidence rather than anything mystical.
leafiadream: Fireheart has no idea how to deal with this big mighty warrior being a pansy around humans. Greystripe hides his head in a hole and laughs.
Anons #5 and 6: I get the feeling these were sent by the same person. In any case, I did consider that, but Sandstorm’s already got a canon relationship with him, so the simpler thing was to make him ginger.
omegawulflove: Please do, and please @ me on it. I would love to see that.
ask-kagalia: Nope! Do whatever you like and start wherever you want! just @ me so I can see it, because I live for fanart.
Can't say for sure since I don't use Tumblr too often besides following a few people (and someone from dA linked your work for me), but I think it's fairly common to rewrite things, or at least theorise on what could have been. (I personally have a longer story that has "rewrites" the Warriors canon/history, but the major changes only happen halfway through the 2nd arc. Otherwise it's very similar.) Though, I don't think anyone has taken it to your extent before now.
That’s about as good of an answer as I can ask for!
Anon #1: Hello and thank you! The name changes came about for the sake of an actual naming system in the Redux. Since a good portion of the names didn’t fit that system, they had to be changed! Runningwind was one of them (plus... that’s a super redundant name, don’t you think?).
Anon #2: 30% of all Dalmations are deaf in at least one ear!
Anon #3: Archie!
leafiadream: Oh, no, Mudclaw’s far too young to have fathered Fogcloud. Fogcloud’s thoroughbred ShadowClan - his dad just happened to also be named Mudclaw.
Ooh, on the topic of renames, I know you mentioned that sometimes cats get their warrior name based on a nickname (e.g. Alder->Ragged). Is that common, or more common in one Clan than another? And does a cat usually tell their mentor/leader that they'd like to be named for their nickname?
It’s a mite different than that. A cat will always have their real name (Fogcloud will be Fogcloud from his naming to the grave, bearing no incidents happen), but their nickname can become so popular that their original name is unknown to outsiders (everyone knows Runningnose, but only his Clanmates know Fogcloud). In Raggedstar’s case, he jokingly suggested Raggedpelt as his new name before realizing how cool it sounded and then requesting a name change. So, yes, it is possible for a nickname to become a legit name, it’s just not very common.
Nicknames themselves are most commonly found in RiverClan, as one can expect. They’re not really popular anywhere else, though at least one cat gets a nickname per generation.
Out of curiosity, how would the cats "shh" someone? Not in the "shut up" sort of way, but in the "shh, everything's okay" sort of way? I'm wondering since the "shh" sound is so much like a hiss, which would probably sound hostile. Would it be more of a purr, like a "mrr" or something?
That’s about accurate, yeah! The feline method of hushing someone soothingly is to purr loudly and sit down close to them (either within range for the soothee to initiate physical contact or far enough that the soother isn’t perceived as a threat). “Sh” sounds are associated with deep, running water, which… is about the exact opposite of relaxing for your average cat.
