Very late #leafycarnivores I made the mistake of taking a nap his afternoon. Anyway here is a thread-leaved sundew (drosera filiformis). #2018dailycreature #droserafiliformis #botanicalillustration #carnivorousplantsofinstagram

Instead of a new sketch to close out this month of #leafycarnivores here are some progress sketches for some of those final pieces. It’s been great fun to join @laurelinrian for her #2018dailycreature project this April! I’ll be spending this week finishing up final illustrations that will be available for purchase. A portion of the sales will be going to support www.nasarracenia.com - the North American Sarracenia Conservancy, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving natural habitats and genetic diversity. Thanks for coming along for this daily sketch! #botanicalillustration #carnivorousplantsofinstagram #sketches
Tonight’s #2018dailycreature wraps up the sundews. Drosera linearis - slenderleaf sundew prefers the cold north of the Great Lakes and Canada. Only a few days of #leafycarnivores left! An just one more thumbnail to go. #botanicalillustration #carnivorousplantsofinstagram #droseralinearis #sundew #slenderleafsundew #sketches
Later and later #leafycarnivores It takes a while to draw all the little sticky glands on Drosera brevifolia. This is a wee tiny little sundew native to the southern USA. #2018dailycreature #botanicalillustration #droserabrevifolia #sundew #carnivorousplantsofinstagram #sketches
We interrupt your scheduled new #leafycarnivores species to bring you: a deadline I haven’t finished yet. Or ‘studies of the flower in my bog’. I’ve realized I had become invested in a simplified flower design that had incorrect petal placement and I’m attempting corrections. #sarracenia #2018dailycreature #botanicalillustration #sketches #toomuchworktodo
The slippery slope of late night #2018dailycreature posts. Heliamphora Pulchella grows in a big mass of dark reds in high mountain pools. About done with these #leafycarnivores - about to head back to North America and leave family Sarraceniaceae all together. #botanicalillustration #heliamphora #carnivorousplantsofinstagram #sketches #heliamphorapulchella #carnivorousplants
Late in the day, today’s #leafycarnivores sketch is Sarracenia Minor. For me the most striking element of this plants pitchers are the well defined white spots. The shape of its hood also gives it a bit more of a frog like character. #sketches #sarraceniaminor #carnivorousplants #botanicalillustration #2018dailycreature
I’m excited to join my awesome friend @laurelinrian for her #2018dailycreature this month - #leafycarnivores ! We discovered a shared obsession with keeping carnivorous plants, and when she let me in on the theme I couldn’t resist. Starting with a page of sarracenia purpurea sketches to get past a bit of self consciousness over rough process sketches - notes to myself and wee thumbnails of ideas included. I can’t wait to see what @laurelinrian comes up with for the rest of the month or how long it takes for me to fall into obsessive repeated pattern making. #collaboration #sarracenia #carnivorousplants #sarraceniapurpurea #botanicalillustration #sketches
