Riot Disabling All Chat in all matchmade queues (Summoners Rift, Aram, tft, etc)
In a new league news article from Riot themselves, they’re deciding in patch 11.21 to temporarily disable all chat from ALL matchmade queues. This includes: Aram, Summoners Rift Norms, SR Blind Pick, Ranked and TFT AND the rotating game mode.
Some quotes from the article about why they’re removing it, “While /all chat can be the source of fun social interaction between teams, as well as some good-hearted banter, right now negative interactions outweigh the positives. We'll evaluate the impact of this change through verbal abuse reports and penalty rates, as well as surveys and direct feedback from you all.” “/All chat is the only thing being disabled. Enemies will still be able to hear and see your emotes and champ mastery (unless muted), as well as CTRL+1/2/3/4 spam. End of Game chat will still be cross-team. Allies will still be able to coordinate with each other in team chat. “ “Regarding that last one, we're aware that verbal abuse happens in team chat too, so disabling /all chat won't get rid of abuse altogether. But team chat also plays an important team coordination function, so the potential value it brings is much higher, even if it can also host some negative experiences.” This is really fucking interesting considering recent events I had in an aram game. It was a game where I was playing against a Rioter.
There was a Lee Sin on the enemy team, who at the beginning, was telling everyone, “Good Luck, Have Fun!~” To which my friends and I told them, “you too!~ :D” “glhf” “u2!” Lee: wow, actually nice people not saying to fuck off lol Me: well we’re all here just to have a good time c: Lee: :D Jinx: I hope your family gets in a car crash Ornn: ahhhh, there it is. The Rioter was playing as Syndra and they were pretty fed, so they’d eliminate the Jinx with just an QER. Jinx thought it’d be a big brain move to type to the all chat, “Syndra, I hope you get ass cancer.” The Jinx then proceeded to argue with the Lee Sin and everyone else in the chat that it was just “harmless banter” and that everyone was acting “goodie two shoes” because a Rioter was present. I remember telling them, “No, I’d never get so upset during a game where I’d wish physical harm against someone.” Would I call someone a moron or an idiot (because they didnt stand in the health relic after I PINGED that I was going for it and then they get mad at me)? Certainly, but I wouldn’t say, “I hope you get cancer,” “I hope your family offs themselves” like c’mon ppl, have some class. The Jinx’s account is still around, they probably got a chat ban. The timing was super interesting... Final Thoughts: for me? I dont really mind. Never really made it my main focus during a game to also talk shit about the enemy team in the all chat. Only thing I’d ever use the all chat for was telling someone, “u too! (glhf)” or “ggwp” or the occasional, “welp.. ______ is afk, rip 4v5.″ So, for me, personally, this change really doesn’t matter, but I’m very curious to hear what others think about the change. You upset? Happy? Angry? Would you keep all chat and instead only allow people with high honor levels to use it?
