All Good things... Vs. Star Trek: Picard, pt. 2
Alright, let's go to everyone's favorite android!
In All Good things... Data was a professor on Cambridge where he lived and had a bunch of cats
Which honestly fits his characters so well. He's so obviously autistic coded and he gets do infodump every single day. He's living his dream.
Meanwhile, in Star Trek:Picard first season he... Well... We all watched Star Trek: Nemesis, didn't we? And honestly, it was one of four times I cried over an android/Robot. First was Baymax from Big Hero Six, then Data, then Giskard from Asimov's Robots series and finally Isaac from The Orville when he basically commitrd suicide (they did repair him though). In first season we only saw Data via Picard's dreams...
And in the "massively complex quantum simulation" as Data put it
By season three we find out that Data's consciousness was put into another android, M-5-10, along with Lore's, Lal's, doctor Soong's and B-4s. In the end Data's personality became the dominant one, essentially reviving him.
If you ask me, they should've promoted him. I mean he's literally the only character who hadn't gotten permanent promotion throughout the entirety of the series (correction/ TWO series and four movies). After all he was supposed to be Picard's first officer on the Enterprise E with Riker leaving in Star Trek: Nemesis to command Titan. I like to think that there's a deleted scene where Data gets promoted to commander's rank posthumously, as it's often done for those fallen in combat (it'd work for star trek, right?) and then promoted again after the whole Frontier Day thing, he deserves it. Maybe also head of some sort of science department or something? Or his own command? I'd really like to see him more as a captain.
Alright, it's Klingon time, AKA, Worf's turn.
Who in All Good things was governor of some small klingon colony and no longer served in Starfleet
But in Star Trek: Picard he was a captain and worked for Starfleet Intelligence:
And was more of a pacifist rather than the hot head he was in TNG. I feel like that quality sorta transferred to Picard, Beverly and Data. If you watched the third season, you'll know. Worf's interactions with Riker were one of the funniest parts, honestly. Which reminds me of the another difference, in All good things these two were hostile towards each other while here they were still good friends.
Alright, next up, Geordi La Forge!
In TNG finale, he was revealed to left Starfleet and be a writer, as well as being married to Leah Brahms with three kids.
While in the actual future, he's still in Starfleet, and the head of the Fleet Museum...
..which honestly feels more in character for him. Didn't really see him as a writer, he never showed interest in that in TNG. Also, Geordi La Forge, working at museum filled with starships? That's peak nerdiness. He literally rebuilt Enterprise D, which was AWESOME.
And he has two daughters, Sidney and Alandra, who are pilot and an engineer, respectively.
Don't really understand why many people were like "Why isn't Sidney an engineer too? Her father's Geordi La Forge!", and I'm like... Guys. He was a pilot too. TNG first season. Look it up. Not that it matters, free will exists. Also, a pilot and an engineer? That's a dream team! And honestly, the La Forge sisters are the only star trek siblings that were shown on screen that: have actually a good relationship, don't try to kill each other, aren't estranged.
On the side note, it's funny how we see Geordi being protective if his daughters. It's adorable, especially since you know that Starfleet officers are trained to be able to defend themselves if necessary. We SAW Sidney being pretty good at hand to hand combat, even without Jack's help. I seriously wonder how many times they had to reshoot the scene with Geordi telling Jack to stay away from his daughter, because they laughed so hard. Cause those who watched tng know Geordi as this calm, sweet character, who wouldn't be able to hurt a fly. So it's pretty funny for us to hear him say "Stay away from my daughter" with a voice clearly trying to be intimidating. Emphasis on "trying"😂
Also in All good things La Forge was literally the first person who went along with Picard but in Star Trek: Picard he was like "You gotta be kidding me.". That probably has something to do with events of star trek Nemesis and him being afraid for Sidney and Alandra now. Which surely explains that once Data came back he stayed. They all are probably like "if Data agrees to that BS, it just make sense. I'm staying".
I’m with you every day Geordi

ok, didn't post about episodes again for a while. it wasn't that I didn't like them, only there was not much picard/beverly action going on, so... not even much data plot either. I did like the one about geordi's holographic scientist love interest though. I vaguely recall wanting to make a post about my theories on that, but then spoilered myself on memory alpha. I actually like where this storyline will be going!
anyway, I thought most of the episodes had this déjà vu feeling for me. bc they either recycled tos, their own storylines OR were actually the first of their kind and I've just seen it all in voyager (and discovery and picard) first. sorry tng.
now let's get to the picard/beverly fest that was this episode: he got so worried for her when he heard of the bomb :') and then he literally punched someone in the face, which is, despite his anger issues, unsually physical for our jean-luc. and his little smile when he finally saw she was ok. and he always calls her beverly now when they are alone, except when he wants to amplify their rank difference, which very much agrees with my headcanon.
but once they had reunited he was barely jealous of the other guy and mainly being a douche. classic picard, he can seemingly only be romantic when he fears he is losing her. (not that being jealous is particularly romantic, but he was basically telling her to offer herself to a terrorist, just for the success of the mission)
but when beverly said "there are a few things I need to tell you", I was like !!! even though I know nothing grand will come out of it. but sometimes a little part of me forgets that this show concluded 30 years ago and I have hope for them lol. it was still a good scene though, very much putting us on the edge of our seats. and seriously, what would she want to "tell" him? in this tone of voice, it couldn't have been "I love you". was there still the plan of picard being wesley's real father at this point? but at any rate, the wording fit so well with my headcanon. that beverly had his baby when she was off the enterprise. I know it's a little wild, but it makes more sense than beverly having an accidental pregnancy in her 50s. also, considering jack's actor's real age, this would align 100%. I will not disclose more, though...
on a completely different note, am I the only one kind of rooting for the terrorists in this episode? like yeah, their methods are obviously wrong but a) the government is just as bad and b) they are the oppressed ones, after all. watching this in 2025 is something... but honestly back then as well, think of the northern ireland conflict.
The Main Cast of Star Trek: Eridani confusion
Joanna McCoy's actress, Susan Gibney, seems to be causing some confusion here.
No, she is not Leah Brahms, as Dr. Brahms is a TNG character, a series set many years after Eridani, nor is she Erika Benteen from DS9, also played by Susan Gibney)
It is not uncommon for Star Trek actors to play in other show, and is actally the case both for Saavik's actress, Robin Curtis, who played Tallera/T'Paal in TNG, as well as David Marcus's actor, Merritt Butrick, who played T'Jon on TNG. These two actors, who began in Star Trek through the TOS movies, also played in The Next Generation, just as how Susan Gibney first was on TNG, and later was casted for Eridani, which began production as TNG was airing it's last season, and then on DS9 as Benteen.
Simply, Tallera/T'Paal and T'Jon appear to be less popular than Leah Brahms, so confusion was bound to happen.
