National traits and characteristics do exist. And we all display them at times. But that doesn’t mean we aren’t individuals, or that we don’t have choices about how we behave.  Making a generalisation about a cultural trait allows you to say it exists but not everyone displays it.

Identify the Types of Variation

The Control Chart allows us to determine which types of variation are present in the Lean Six Sigma Process. 

The control limits serve to quantify the boundaries of common cause variability in a process. 

Any signal of unexpected behavior such as a point outside a control limit indicates the presence of special cause variation.

Process Variation Reduction

Improvements in process performance can be realized through variation reduction efforts directed at either special cause or common cause variation.

Special causes of variation generally receive immediate attention due to their unpredictable nature and the fact that sources of special cause variation are often very large compared to sources of common cause variation.
