Let the world know I hate Leanne from Orange is the New Black much more than I've hated any other character on the show, even Vee.

I've only watched the first three seasons, so perhaps she can be redeemed, but so far I have zero positive feelings towards her.

I missed them and I wished we got to see some bits and pieces of them throughout this season. I was worried that Alex is going to be alone in Ohio so I'm glad there were familiar faces in that prison. 🖤

(continued) they didn't work. Now I know they just wanted the drama of Alex in that room but it's one thing that I just can't wrap my head around. Orientation seems to be something that happens right away for the inmates and the first step to them then getting assigned bunks, tan jumpsuits etc. This is going off Morello, Healy & Caputo stressing the importance of orientation. Minor point but it's just always bugged me. Even if Leanne & Alex are fairly new they should have been in another group.

(note: the first part of this 'ask' is here)That's a good question... and when I rewatched 1x02's orientation scene, I thought the same thing because I (like you) had assumed that Alex had been at Litchfield much longer than Piper. I think you’re correct in saying that putting Piper and Alex in the same room makes for good drama. (esp. since the orientation scene is at the very start of 1x02 and Piper screaming at Alex was at the very end of 1x01). From a cinematic point of view, I think having Alex and Leanne wearing khaki uniform works because it makes them stand out---Alex because she’s Piper’s “antagonist” + a main character, and Leanne because she’s sitting next to Piper (which makes Piper---another main character--stand out).

Plotwise, I have no idea why Alex's orientation was delayed---in 1x08, she did say she "went on sad drugs when (she) got (there)... and they worked for a while" (but then she traded them for black eyeliner--/so/ Alex :) Some antidepressants have a faster onset than others (even as little as 1-2 weeks for at least one of the 2nd gen antidepressants if you want to get technical....and then there's the placebo effect.....) which might cut her time at Litchfield “pre-Piper” to a matter of days...but as you said, orientation isn't something that they'd put off for that long for new prisoners (unless they were in medical or something). I have no idea how long Leanne was there before Piper arrived, but I can see her becoming fast friends with Tucky, being the sycophant that she is lol.

What a long-ass answer! I didn’t really come up with a satisfactory answer but the scene is very funny. Piper choosing to sit in a chair that’s “broke” (according to Leanne) vs. sitting next to Alex, Alex’s reaction (shaking her head in non-surprise) and then the very loud scraping sound Piper’s chair makes when she sits in it always makes me laugh my head off.
