You may have been wondering what the hell is lenormand? I thought it would be nice to make a thread outlining how this style of reading works.
As I said in the graphic, this isn't the history of lenormand-- you can Google it, respectfully.
We're going to look at how lenormand functions so that you can make an informed decision on if it's a style of reading that you would be interested in.
First, let's get this out the way. Lenormand is similar to Tarot, but it is not Tarot. This is not to make comparisons of which is better-- they both have a place and come with pros and cons.
I will use Tarot as a way to explain certain things, however.
A) Lenormand cards are not meant to be read singularly. In Tarot, you can speak on a whole scene or chapter in a person's life by analyzing one card.
There is so much symbolism within certain decks and while lenormand can get quite artistically aesthetic, what's ON the card doesn't really matter much as the Keywords attached.
B) Lenormand is read as you would read words in a sentence. It's a little difficult to get the full story from one word, right? (If you are clarifying a tarot spread, however, one card lenormand can be great for that!)
You can read lenormand cards in pairs, or as I often do, in threes.
Say we have cards A, B, C.
B=Like, Enjoy, Appreciate
So if we laid those cards out in front of us we could get a few different combinations, but notice each card relates to a particular set of keywords.
C) While the keywords may vary, they carry a specific set of words that will convey a certain piece of a story. This is why I said the picture on the card is irrelevant for the most part.
For example; lenormand features cards that show a Key, a Book, and a Tower.
In every deck there will be these cards, no matter how the art is drawn, they will always carry the same significations.
So not as much information in the same way as Tarot provides, but a more direct and concise piece of the puzzle to your life or question, rather.
D) Location, Location, Location!
I'm not going to get super deep into all the ways that direction and placement can alter a lenormand reading, but the general thing to remember is that where you place the cards matter!
And lenormand is read directionally; vertically, horizontally, diagonally, and in corners.
You can see why the placement of the cards matters, they also can change the whole energy of a reading depending on the card.
If you have a larger spread or house, as they are called you can read them in chunks as well. There are so many combinations and what you choose and how is all dependent on the reader.
E) You essentially understand all the basics of how lenormand readings work. There are 36 cards to a deck and to use all of them in reading is called a Grand Tableau.
I tend to focus on 9 card tableaus/spreads.
It gives me enough cards to answer most queries sufficiently, without becoming too much to convey.
Also makes timing easier for short term.
You can ask the Lenormand all kinds of questions whether it be about love, money, career, relocation, or other life-related energy questions.
If you've only gotten tarot readings, lenormand can be a fun and interesting way to get some answers. They are definitely more direct.
Now that you know a little more than you likely did before about Lenormand Cards, maybe you're thinking you'd like to try a reading out.
They're read more quickly as well if you need a faster response.
