It's not about who can blow the biggest cloud, do the fanciest tricks or who can build the best coils. The fight is for the right to give smokers or those thinking about smoking a healthier alternative and about governments around the world creating a prohibition on a product that is proven to save lives. As much as this image may anger or offend some of you, the reality of any advocacy movement is that it relies on public perception. Right now, for lack of a better term, the general public views the vaping community as a bunch of jackasses who just wanna "blow big clouds of smoke". All of the current vaping advocacy groups need to be a little more self critical and aware of similar movements, from which we can learn. My prime example is to look at the medical marijuana movement. When the advocates for MMJ switched their campaign from trying to change policies to changing public perception that battle drastically changed in recent years. When the public sees average people they can relate to, or that reminds them of family or friends, then we may make more headway in this battle. We, the hobbyist side of vaping, are the 1%. Everyone one of us should make it a goal everyday to educate a non-vaper or smoker on the benefits and harm reduction that vaping provide. Preaching to a choir of vapers everyday to write letters or make phone calls will only go so far. We need to engage the public and change the perception. This fight is far from over and everyone needs to do their part. Remember the big picture; this isn't about continuing your personal right to have fun. This is about making sure a product that has proven tobacco harm reduction benefits remains for the millions of tobacco users out there.
