i’ve decided i’m going to try to learn to code so i can make a selfship/yumeship app :3

i’m sick of seeing ai/vibe-coded apps and there are a lot of features i want that i don’t see on other apps. also, there just… aren’t any selfship apps out there 😭

soooo please lmk what things you’d be interested in seeing in an app for selfshippers!

i might include:

- templates made BY MYSELF (not stolen from other artists, like a certain app there is…)

- sections for lore, writing, art etc etc

- obviously the ability to log multiple ships, and maybe have connections between ships for multi/poly selfshippers?

- totally offline, so all your data is stored on the device the app is installed on. this will make it more private, but will mean features like a friends list isn’t possible

- at SOME point, and with some funding and enough interest, an online version may be made to allow for friend lists and such

- widgets and f/o messages maybe?

- no dni, no barring ANYONE from using the app, no blocking people from any official socials (tumblr, discord, whatever) for the app

- if the app is found to be useful for something other than selfshipping (such as ‘regular’ shipping, irl partners, etc), then it will be encouraged to use it for that too

anyway!!

lmk what kinds of things you’d be interested in seeing! i need to know what exactly i want for the app to better approach learning to code (i.e. prioritising certain things over others, after learning all the basics)

this app (and any social medias connected to it) will have absolutely no “dni” attached to it, but for myself personally on this blog, do not contact me directly if you are a double

when the app is actually in development, it will have a tumblr blog dedicated to it, and potentially a discord server. these will be open to ALL, regardless of my personal boundaries and opinions

Oh ho ho I'm chortling like a little demon with glee because I successfully 'hacked' Tidal (not really but let me have this tiny win)!

So here's the story: The dark mode is SO FUCKING BLACK on that app that it literally gives me a headache if I try to look at it for too long. And there's no light mode. It's hellish. It pains me.

So of course the first thing I did was install the wonderful third-party app TidaLuna, which allows you to adjust various things about Tidal (such as offering a light-mode option, hallelujah).

However! After the last Tidal update, they added a sneaky new update that uninstalls TidaLuna every time you restart the Tidal app. For what fucking reason I cannot imagine. The only reason this third-party app exists in the first place is because your own damn app is a piece of shit. Sorry, Tidal, but this is entirely your own fault.

Tragically, the automatic TidaLuna installer isn't working for me anymore, so I had to install it manually with the command line. This isn't too much of a hassle if you only have to do it once, but reinstalling it from scratch every single time I want to open Tidal and listen to some music was REALLY getting old, believe you me.

So! I decided to automate the TidaLuna installation by creating a shell script to run all the steps for me. I do still have to run my own script manually every time before starting the app, but it's simple as opening up the command line and typing "install-tidaluna"...

...and voilà! My light mode and all the other lovely add-ons that increase the functionality of this disastrous app are back <3

I've got to say, though, dear Tidal: at this rate you are never going to be able to compete with Spotify. Spotify just... works. With Tidal I'm having to turn into a half-baked hacker just to make the app work in a semi-decent manner. That's not exactly impressive. You should probably get on top of your shit.

Oh well, at least I learned a new skill as a result of this mess :D

Yo I wanna make a game!

I decided that it would be fun for me to make a Punch-Out!! Fangame/parody game that's a dating sim of all the characters from all the games! (Excluding any minors tho)

I have no clue how to code tho but if anyone has any suggestions or advice, say it! I really want to make this and small things like advice on how to learn to codr is amazing

When I was 9 years old, I learned enough html to code neopets pages, my own geocities websites, and I even made forums on my own sites so my friends could all roleplay together or rant together lol. And then? I forgot so much. I no longer no how to make a forum, or even a 'next page' button - so even the dream of just making a simple blog or webnovel site feels like a huge hurdle now. (9 year old me could probably figure it out in 2 hours).

So I'm relearning! I figured this would be a fun post to place resources I find for coding, since there's coding languages, and I figure maybe if you like running you're blog then you also might be interested in tools for making blogs!

First, for those of you who miss the old geocities and angelfire type of sites to make your own free site on: neocities.org

You can make free sites you can code yourself, the way 9 year old me did. A lot of people have made SUCH amazing sites, it's baffling my mind trying to figure out how they did, I definitely wish I could make an art portfolio site even a fourth as cool as some of the sites people have made on here.

And for those pressed for time, who aren't about to learn coding right now: wix.com is the place I recommend for building a site, it requires no coding skill and is fairly straightforward about adding pages or features by clicking buttons. I used it to make my art portfolio site, I am testing out using it for my webnovel - the alternative is Wordpress, but wix.com is letting me basically make a wordpress blog Inside my own site. It's very beginner friendly in terms of "how the fuck do I set up a 'sign up for updates' message and have my site actually email these people my novel updates?" and "I need a 4x20 grid of my art down the page, that lets people click the art to see it's information and make it bigger."

I did neocities.org's little html tutorial today, it's the part of html I DID remember (links, paragraphs, headers).

My next step is to go through htmldog.com's tutorials. They go from beginner, to intermediate, to CSS. Unlike many a coding tutorial I've seen, they explain what program on your computer you need to WRITE the code in and then how to save it and how to open it. (You'd think this isn't a big deal but I've been looking into how to learn Python for months and I can't find a tutorial explaining what fucking program to write my python in... notepad? do I need something else? I don't fucking know!! My dad finally gave me a printed textbook which supposedly tells you what to download to start... I learned C++ in college and for that you needed Visual Basic to code C++, so I figured I needed Something to Write the fucking python IN.)

Learning html and css is killing me. It took me two hours to make an otherwise blank web page with one image, one header, and one paragraph, all center-aligned with imported fonts from google. There were bugs. Bugs in the code to display 2 sentences plus one picture. People say that html and css are like the easiest coding languages to learn but like. I guess not if you're stupid as hell like me 😭
