So an update on some stuff, ladies and gents.
I didn’t have an update for my Let’s Play today because work was exceedingly long and I’ve been working on the first episode of my Girls of Gaming.
The first episode of the Girls of Gaming is temporarily being postponed. The latest it will be released should be Tuesday, but I’m aiming for tomorrow night or Sunday. It all depends on my editing program. I have had no end of troubles with Adobe Premiere Elements 12, so I am switching over to using Sony Vegas Pro 12. I have heard good things about it, especially when it comes to stability so hopefully this will work better. I just need to learn my way around. Haha…
So after liberating over it between bouts of hair pulling whilst working with Adobe, it has been decided that I will expanded the Girls of Gaming. The newly titled Diversity in Gaming or D.I.G. for short will encompass an examination of games which come from all walks of life. For all 0 people that are following me specifically for the Girls of Gaming, don’t worry. I started it and female representation in games, in particular women protagonist will be my focus for the next few months. I just want to broaden the scope over all because there are so many different aspects of diversity in the games.
Naturally because this is a vaguer topic than Girls of Gaming, there will have be more thought out topics and criteria. For instance it would be impossible to do this project focusing on canon queer protagonists that are not avatar’s that one chooses to be queer. Not to mention many games employee metaphors to handle topics such as racism and homophobia. It’s still going to take a little bit of time to formulate some topics to cover and specific games to examine. I do have a few vague ideas and some games chosen to play through, but I definitely have some time before I actually get to touch them. For the time being here is a rough outline of some of the games I will be covering for D.I.G.
- The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind – Heavily deals with slavery
- Jade Empire – A candian made game based in mythological China that is also one of the first time that Bioware added same sex romances to one of their games
- The Assassin’s Creed series is known for having diverse protagonists even if the gameplay stays mostly the same
- Quite a few games from the Girls of Gaming have non-white protagonists.
Once again, I am new to this. I hope that I learn and grow and become better at making and editing videos. In time, I hope that we form a good community around D.I.G. that can help direct it’s growth with games and topics to cover. There’s more than one story out there, so let’s discover them.
