For August's Mask, I was so happy to create a poppy-themed design! Poppy is the alternative birth flower for August with its symbolic red and iconic shape. The green of the mask symbolizes the August birthstone of the Peridot, while the flowing floral lines represent August's Poppy birth flower. Now available in my shop as a limited edition design. Only 10 of these masks will ever be made! Carved from vegetable-tanned leather and painted with acrylics.

Recently, I was asked to share my story publicly as part of the Inspiring Stories Series for Boston Voyager Magazine. I graciously and appreciatively accepted the invitation with the belief that my journey may be of encouragement to others. Little did I know that the experience was just what I needed in order to drive that final nail in the coffin of my past. Leather Artisan Atelier:

France/Paris

This was one of the most unexpected nights ever. I met a few friends at a random bar way across town for what was supposed to be a casual drink and then we'd all go home early (cause the bar closed before midnight). 

One of the friend of a friend that joined us was a quiet, unassuming guy named David. When the bar closed, none of us were ready to go home, so David invited us across the street to his atelier for a glass of wine - luckily the corner store was still open!

We walked into one of the most magical studios any of us has ever seen. David is the fourth generation of traditional artisans to work in leather. He is currently one of only a few people in the world who still do this craft by hand, all of whom are located in Paris. His clients range from Dior to Hermes to up and coming designers... and then he also designers and makes his own amazing creations.

His great-grandfather started the artisan leather atelier where they skillfully do leather embossing, engraving, hand cutting, building, sewing. 

You name it, they do it. 

All by hand the way it's been done for hundreds of years. All the tools in the shoppe have been handed down from generation to generation... and every tool is more interesting than the next.

David had leather samples from exotic animals from all over the world. Each small piece costing hundreds and hundreds of dollars... and feeling softer and softer than the last.

We watched some clips from David's runway work. This dress believe it or not is 100% LEATHER! None of us believed him till he showed us a small swatch of leather that he meticulously hand cut to look like lace. Absolutely amazing.
