Antique French Gilt Silver Pocket Watch Memento Mori Skull LeCoultre Caliber
65 years ago... US Navy Cdr NASA astronaut Alan B. Shepard On February 21, NASA Robert Gilruth had chosen the three Mercury astronauts that would make the first flight, in alphabetical order implying that no final decision had been made: Glenn, Grissom and Shepard. LIFE magazine brought the story calling these three the Gold team, the other astronauts were called the Red team. On May , 1961 US Navy LtCdr Alan B. Shepard became the first NASA astronaut making a 15 minutes sub-orbital flight onboard Mercury-Redstone 3 "Freedom 7". Although no wrist watch was worn on the short sub-orbital flights, in September 1959 the Space Task Group for Project Mercury had already issued the first official NASA astronaut wrist watches for the "Mercury 7" astronauts; a bespoke 24 hours dial/movement LeCoultre pilot watch based on the LeCoultre Quartermaster. The military-inspired Quartermaster was produced in 1957 to celebrate 125 years of LeCoultre watches, 2500 were made. The Space Task Group for Project Mercury wanted a 24 hours movement wrist watch so the astronauts were in sink with the worldwide NASA MSFN Manned Space Flight Network of tracking stations & ships. For these 34mm LeCoutre watches, the astronauts had the choice between the "Lizard expansion" bracelet or the lightweight mesh bracelet. However, the watches were only used in training between September 1959 and October 1963. (Photo: LIFE magazine)
The Reverso Classique is kind of like a Porsche 911: an instantly recognizable silhouette that can trace its design origins clearly from the beginning to the present. The Q2438520 Reverso is a perfect dress watch; ideally sized and balanced, a dial with depth and texture and a timeless design. Like many Richemont brands I feel that JLC is at its best when it is at its simplest and this Reverso epitomizes that concept. - - - - - - - - - - #JLC #jaeger #lecoultre #reverso #Q2438520 #guilloche #manualwinding #silverdial #bluehands #watch #watches https://www.instagram.com/p/Cn0BkP7S2dF/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Guitarist John McLaughlin and his ravishingly attractive #LeCoultre. The watch upon his wrist so striking us is a pretty rare 1950s LeCoultre, a gift from his wife from Boston sometime in the 1990s. The lugs of the watch are particularly noticeable, and are not something we have ever seen the likes of before. Golden loops are welded onto the yellow-gold case, fastening the lugs to which they are attached. The ivory-coloured dial has tapered hour markers and a minute track, which does not lie around the very periphery of the dial, but rather further within. Meanwhile, the small seconds lie at 6 o’clock. Another notable feature of this model is that the dial is signed solely LeCoultre. Could this be a model, then from before the coming together of the movement manufacture LeCoultre and watchmaker Jaeger? No – it has nothing to do with the time of production, but rather with the place. Because of limiting toll restrictions at the time, the case, dial, and hands were made in the USA between the 1930s and 1970s. On the US market, the models were therefore signed with LeCoultre, while the European models read Jaeger-LeCoultre. —— Visit the link in bio to discover more for yourself.
