how long had fugo been a spy for diavolo’s sake? since the procurement of his stand? give or take a couple of days for word to reach its higher ground. since that first day he hasn’t really garnered any complaints in going the extra mile to be a spy for diavolo.
fugo kept his work quiet, writing small assessments and sending them off, meeting in person and bruno had yet to be the wiser to fugo’s betrayal. not that bruno has been doing anything of real concern to the boss. though bruno only made it easier for fugo to keep up with consistent reports. the teen was being paid less and less attention too since the rest of everyone’s recruitment. fugo didn’t seek out bruno’s affection like narancia did, fugo was less of a mess to deal with compared to mista. less of an interest with abbacchio around. he felt starved without ever really being hungry.
diavolo was generous as a result of fugo’s good work, gifts, money, and one week he abandoned his strawberry earring pair; handpicked by bruno to wear a pair given to him by the boss. bruno didn’t even notice.
when diavolo first kissed fugo on the forehead and patted him on the shoulder; he flinched. eventually the teen cared less and less about the gifts that were purchased for him and all the extra incentive money that was offered to him fugo didn’t really spend. a small grab of his hand, a pat on the shoulder or back, a kiss to the forehead, to the cheek. encouragement, appraisal, affection - that’s why he kept doing it, and he didn’t need to actively seek it out in order to receive. diavolo didn’t even have to pay him anymore.
“thanks dad.” oh fuck.
