Should you become a lecturer 🎓?? . . I’ve been a sessional lecturer in nutrition 5 years now for @laureateintlu & @latrobeuni , I often get asked by students & graduates if it’s a good career path to follow?? So below I have listed some pros and pressures of the role: . Pros 👍: . • It’s a lot of fun, and you meet some incredible students that charge up your passion up for nutrition. • It keeps you at the top of your game 🎾 , you’re forced to learn a lot of content & find new research. • It’s a lot of responsibly and you need to be efficient & think on your toes to mark assignments & answer questions. Which brings the best out of my abilities. • There are a lot of light 💡 bulb moments that students have especially in year one, this is a joy to watch & influence. • As a sessional lecturer you can choose the lectures you want to teach & run it alongside your business. Some days I lecture in the morning & run workshops or consults in the afternoon. . . Pressures 😅: . • You need to be able to stand in front of 30+ people and engage them for 3 hours on content, sometimes for 3 lectures a day. • You need a masters or PHD, as well as some form of education training i.e. cert IV in training & assessment. Also the uni’s I work for require a minimum of 4 years of industry experience. • Your voice takes a beating, you need to be vocally strong & fit enough to deal with the adrenaline rush & pressure. • You need to be patient person, learning new things are hard and if you can’t find the pace of the class you will struggle to educate new minds 🧠. • The marking is one of the hardest parts, some terms you can have over 200 assignments to mark and this needs to be planned and structured in order to get everything completed on time. . .
