“Everyone was staring at me.”
Weston shook his hands, his nervousness of being the newest musician accepted into the prestigious Boroughsburg Musical Project getting to him. He was the best of the best in his small town, but now he was in New York. Everything was bigger and better, including the talent. “Everyone take a seat,” One of the leaders said. “Lee, a veteran in our program, will play a musical number to welcome our newest member to the group. Weston, say hello and tell us a bit about yourself.” “Hi,” Weston said shyly. “My name is Weston Bagette and my dream is to be a singer on Broadway. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to learn how to shine.” Everyone clapped and relief washed over the male. He looked up only to lock eyes with Lee Glick, a man he had seen before. The man was a seasoned performer, and yet here he was playing a song right in front of Weston.
“Welcome Weston,” Lee said, eyes falling onto the new man for only a few seconds before his eyes fell back onto the keys. Weston squirmed under the gaze of the other students as he tried to focus on Lee. They were watching to see what he’d do. Fanboy, gush, ignore? He had to play it cool.
The musical arrangement that Lee played was unlike anything Weston had the pleasure of hearing up close before. Back in his small town, the closest he had gotten to live piano was at his school plays. Mrs. Genere, his music teacher, had a very limited skill set when it came to playing the piano so she ended up usually playing the same songs over and over again.
Weston must have looked completely taken by Lee, because at the end of his song the famous singer could only laugh. “Take a picture, it’ll last longer kid.” Lee stood up from the piano and thanked the other students who were clapping for him.
“Wait,” Weston called weakly. “I just thought that was really good...” He wasn’t ogling the male!
“I know,” Lee said. “It was good. Take the program seriously and this could be you too. If not, see how preforming on train platforms will treat ya.” Weston gulped, knowing that impressing Lee was going to be a lot harder than anything he had to accomplish before. ‘
