Something something. Warparty AUs. One is me seeing how many other characters I can feasibly make as Not Normal about Sung Jinwoo as I am and they're all foaming at the mouth because he's the last member of the band. They're all like: Where the FUCK is he?

Joohee's part of that warparty and she drags a dozen entire guild's worth of mages and healers into setting up a scientific test to determine a something. The something being that LO AND BEHOLD, buffing and healing takes much less magic when casting on a member of your warband. Like a significant amount less.

Joohee's gonna shove the published initial study into Jinwoo's arms and smile cutely, "Did you see this Jinwoo?"

Jinwoo: uuuh? *reads paper* oh fuck

Another one would def be the Haein/Jinwoo/Jinchul thing. If I was confident enough to write the build up of a romance. Cue Jinwoo bald faced lying to Jinah about looking for his warparty when he absolutely isn't. Cue Jinchul having access to the records to KNOW Jinwoo is part of his warparty, but Jinwoo had a note attached to his profile signaling a preference to mot be contacted on account of personal responsibilities he doesn't want to share with (read as: burden) anyone. So he legally cannot tell Haein who it is, just that they don't wish to be approached. I think it couls be a good set up for something angsty.

Can I just say how much I like Lee Joohee?

She's not in the series long/much, but what little we see of her I think she has the richest character arc of anyone in the series.

She's a B-rank healer, meaning she's on the serious strong side in general, but doesn't have the personality for battle. But she does feel a strong responsibility to help out because she's strong and a healer and the world needs that, so she compromises and goes on lower-level missions, E and D rank ones that people of her level never go on and she keeps people alive.

She's scared, she's nervous, she doesn't really want to be there, but she wants to contribute and keep people alive more than she's afraid.

She kept Sung Jinwoo alive for a while before canon and even in the first episode.

When beating a D rank monster was something he couldn't manage without mortal injury, she stood by him and helped him fight and did her best to support his continuing fight and accepted he wouldn't stop.

She was kind and cared and hated people being hurt and became especially invested in Sung Jinwoo, I think because she appreciated his tenacity in battle - the desire to fight and push beyond his assigned level that's in direct opposition to herself.

Lee Joohee probably would have gone on like that, but then the double dungeon happened.

She wasn't able to handle B rank dungeons on a regular day. An S rank one, and one that got nearly the whole party massacred with that much horror and terror and gore, was WAY too much for her. She tried her best and even to the end wanted to help and fight together and all get out alive, but her terror lost her the ability to stand and for her own sake she was knocked out and forcibly carried out.

It broke her. That double dungeon did her in. She was never going to fight again after that. Her fear was larger than her need to help.

But she didn't it give up right away.

She tried with all her might to get back to being someone who could go into dungeons and keep backing people up.

She got into therapy. She did the work. She went around visiting the other survivors. She eventually answered a call for hunters to take care of a gate on a street no one else was paying attention to and went out and tried again because people needed help and she STILL felt responsible. She felt a duty to fight, but it was now colored with the sense of shame and failure of survivor guilt and self-loathing for the fear that was stopping her from wanting to keep helping.

And she chokes.

And she see's how Sung Jinwoo has gotten better, recovered and pushed forward like he always did and she sees that and realizes finally that that's not her, and then she retires.

She's sad about it, she feels left behind and guilty, but doesn't keep trying to force herself and make herself a liability when she freezes again and gracefully bows out of hunting.

She watches the news and is simply happy and proud for Sung Jinwoo's growing success from the safety of her civilian life.

And then, when the ants are spreading out, she comes back.

When it counts the most, when an unprecedented spread of monsters is imminent, she bucks up, digs into that therapy and wields the time she's had off like a shield and gets herself back out onto the front line because all the strong ones are at Jeju Island and it's the duty of the weaker hunters to protect the shore.

Sung Jinwoo's newly acquired shadow Beru takes care of the invading wave so she didn't need to fight much, and was blatantly happy to have been saved by him, but Lee Joohee was THERE.

She is an AWESOME character.

She has a rich, complicated inner struggle. She has virtues and vices. She's swayed by responsibility and shame. She has an understandable ugly moment lashing out at her mom as it's crashing in on her she won't be able to keep being a hunter and she spends hours curled on her bed in the dark as she tries to struggle through the lingering horror of the double dungeon and then she smiles, so sweet and kind and proud when her friend and might-have-been-boyfriend rises to a height out of her reach.

Characters in series 10x longer with 100x more screentime have had a fraction of her character development.

I don't wish she was in the series more because that would change her story arc and it is PERFECT (and I'm hoping if she has more moments they're short and brief like the end of season 2), but I do think the story is going to have a very steep uphill battle presenting me another female character this complex and likeable to me.
