Harper's Bazaar You seem like someone who is good at remembering passages or scenes from books. It's amazing how you can remember everything when you're so busy.
Han Sohee I like short stories. I don't have to read them in order. The moment I realize that I have to read a book from the first page to the last, I feel pressured. Of course, there are books that I have to read one by one. That's why I usually take out a poetry book before going to bed. And I just open it without thinking. When I open it, if I find something impressive, I take a picture with my phone, or if it's concise and strong, I just remember it. These days, when I'm filming a movie, there are so many things going on in my head that I naturally look for shorter stories.
Harper's Bazaar You also take out and show the things you have saved and digested in the right places.
Han Sohee Come to think of it, I often read articles about human emotions, whether it's love or friendship. I think that the worries between people usually come from when our emotions are like this but the other person's emotions are not the same. I guess it's the empathy that comes from reading articles about emotions. I guess I can see those moments well.
Harper's Bazaar Was Suspiria a memorable movie from early this year? I found traces of it on your Instagram feed.
Han Sohee I like gore movies, not horror movies with ghosts. I also like occult movies like Hereditary and Midsommar. I was going to watch the original Suspiria, but I saw the remake first because Tilda Swinton was there. I’m also interested in modern dance, so the scene where the female protagonist dances while auditioning caught my eye. There’s no song, no sound, and it’s a scene where she just shows her body language. Tilda Swinton’s gaze as she looks at it is also impressive. The colors are really beautiful, too.

Harper's Bazaar You always look at pretty things. What kind of beauty do you see, Sohee?
Han Sohee Doesn't it change every year? I've been realizing lately that beauty isn't just about visual forms. As the saying goes, "You have to have a beautiful heart," I feel like I'm more focused on my physical strength, or rather, my state of mind. So instead of "I'm so tired today. I can't do anything," it's "I can't do anything. So I'll just take some vitamins and sleep." If you don't have energy on set, it affects those around you. Trying not to transmit my hardships to those around you is also my standard for beauty these days.

Harper's Bazaar If we're talking about recent news, it would have to be <Project Y>. It's new in that it's a 'buddy film about women in their 30s.'
Han Sohee When I first chose this movie, I thought that it was a movie that I couldn't make if I didn't look like this at this age. I thought that it was a work that I would never get to do again in my life, where I could mix my current energy and a moderately mature feeling that I wouldn't have even after 5 years, even if I were 5 years younger. And although I became really close friends with actress Jeon Jongseo, when we started the project, I couldn't help but think about how to show the chemistry between us two. I was confident that we really fit together and that we could show the best chemistry among actresses of the same age. I also really want to prove that through this project.
Harper's Bazaar It's a story about fighting over 8 billion gold bars. Even if it's not gold bars, what would Sohee do if she got something enormous?
Han Sohee I've had so many 'dream come true' experiences in my life. I bought a house that I thought I would never have, and became the main character in a movie or drama that I could never imagine. Are you saying I'm being greedy here? (Laughs) To me, a house is a very realistic space where I can lay my body down. Some people ask why I don't invest... Even if I suddenly made 10 billion won, I would control my desire to increase that money to 20 billion won. That's my answer.
Harper's Bazaar You've done a lot of physical work so far. What about <Project Y>?
Han Sohee <Project Y> is not about fighting like <My Name> or <Gyeongseong Creature>, but rather about crashing down, running, and falling down somewhere. For me, the action genre had a big impact that shook the roots of my acting career. After all, action is ‘action acting’. Action acting is not just about hitting and being hit, but also about being surprised and scared. While filming <My Name>, I went to an action school and learned how to use my body and express my emotions at the same time. When I read the script, I knew I would get angry and surprised, so there were times when I felt awkward. As I learned action, I learned how to act more naturally.
Harper's Bazaar Is there anything about acting that you are instinctively drawn to?
Han Sohee I guess you could call it ambivalent. I'm drawn to roles where I have to love someone I shouldn't love, but have to, and hate someone I can't hate. In <Project Y>, a gold bar falls on two friends who were barely making ends meet. I think I was naturally drawn to this story.

Harper's Bazaar When you think of Han Sohee, many things naturally come to mind. Is there a topic you want to ask yourself when you want to talk about something different?
Han Sohee I guess I'm just a very honest person, no matter how much I think about it.
Harper's Bazaar Honesty can sometimes create difficult situations.
Han Sohee I think there definitely needs to be accountability for the problems that come from honesty. I have fans, friends, and people who listen to what I say. I'm trying hard to learn responsible honesty.
Harper's Bazaar It's great that you try not to throw away what's yours.
Han Sohee I'm constantly looking for better things than throwing them away. I don't want to lie.
Harper's Bazaar What is the most important thing that has not changed so far?
Han Sohee Not being arrogant, not being cocky. Since when did I become the main character? (Laughs) It hasn't even been 5 years since people started to know me. It's something I've always thought about. I think it'll be ruined the moment it gets messed up.
Harper's Bazaar What if it's the other way around?
Han Sohee I want to have some free time. I've been living according to a schedule for a long time. So I don't know what to do when I'm home alone. I want to add a little bit of my time to my life and make various memories instead of spending all 365 days of my life just working.
Harper's Bazaar Starting in June, you will be holding a world tour fan meeting in Asia, America, and Europe. You think that the bond with your fans is important. How do you want to fill that time?
Han Sohee I'm looking up a lot of fan meeting videos of many actors and seniors. (Laughs) My fans are so grateful to me that I want to return the favor by coming to see them.

Harper's Bazaar From Sohee's point of view, I think she will keep one thing every time she goes to various cities.
Han Sohee I buy figures and toys. When I went to Cannes, I bought a tin doll that moves forward when you turn it and a rat doll from Ratatouille. I like collecting things that have the characteristics of a city or that have traditions. I display them in a visible place at home and sometimes recall memories of that city.
Harper's Bazaar The words written on Instagram, “A gathering of people who love Sohee = A gathering of people who Sohee should love,” were impressive. She is a person for whom love is really important. I thought that love is just one word to Sohee, but it probably contains a lot of emotions.
Han Sohee Just as some people live for money and some for responsibility, the driving forces of life are all different, but I think it comes from love when you go back to the beginning. But my fans blindly love me. I've never eaten with them and I've never spent time meeting them properly. I felt really precious when I saw them cheering for me just by looking at me in the media, reading the books I read, and pursuing a similar lifestyle. I've never been loved like this before. I found out after meeting my fans. So I think I expressed it that way because I thought I couldn't just dismiss it as a 'group that loves Sohee' and that they were people I had to protect.
Harper's Bazaar Do you even know how to love yourself?
Han Sohee It's the hardest. It's very simple to give love to others in a way, but why is it so difficult to love myself? But now I think I've vaguely found a way. I'm going to finish what I can perfectly and find happiness there. I feel catharsis while acting and I feel alive while getting dopamine. Sometimes I have to spend time or stamina and sometimes it's hard, but when I get good results as much as I put in, they praise me generously. I was looking at the picture after the photo shoot today, and I felt good because it came out well. I think praising myself in the pictorial as “pretty, good job” is one of the ways I love myself.
