she gets flustered, which gets him thinking. he wonders if she likes him. not in the person way, they get along fine. but derek has always been awful at picking up on cues. he usually is with more dominant females which leads to pretty clear signals - if not them coming onto him first. it’s what he’s used to. he doesn’t want to mess anything up, so he just smiles, noticing how she hides her face. “have you ever been in love at all?” derek doesn’t know. he’s thought he’s been in love, but it’s usually tainted by something. kate was too old for him - he loved her but he was being manipulated. he loved jennifer but then she turned out to be…well. not jennifer. braeden was good, but they never had that connection he felt to be love.
usually, she’s so confident around people. she’s usually so confident around pretty much everyone she walks past but there’s something about him. maybe it’s because he’s part of her pack now, that if she tries something and it falls through - it might become awkward and he might decide to leave and find another alpha. maybe that’s what’s holding her back, but he’s so good looking and his personality shines brighter than the sun. he’s a good guy. she grabs what she needs to finish off the hot chocolate and sprays the top with cream and places two little marshmallows on top. she hands his over and smiles. “no. never that kind of love. i’ve had one night stands, friends with benefits - but nobody ever sticks around long enough. what about you?”
