haze is a result of the impact zones, prolonged exposure at the very edges causes lightheadedness, vertigo, nausea. extended or concentrated exposure can result in internal bleeding and misc other severe, life threatening ailments
factions
how i picked the representative animals
east province/black tortoise (lead by seok, later ???) is the smallest faction, lacking technology, relies mostly on fishing and what agriculture they can manage. mountains offer good protection but limits potential expansion - jongho origins
west metro/cerulean phoenix (lead by yunseo, later yeosang) is the largest source of old world relics, lacking in agriculture, has many engineering experts, home of Hala (halazia black pirates) where they're revered as legends that just managed to save humanity - yeosang, wooyoung, seonghwa origins
west province/vermilion dragon (lead by jiwon, later ???) was formed first, taking advantage of the rich agriculture to build themselves up, current strongest faction
east metro/white tiger (lead by jiho, later ???) is the newest faction, major trade capital with a history of aggression, trying to catch up to west metro's tech - mingi, yunho, san origins
because each territory has it's own unique benefits and each lead by an alpha there's a power struggle among some to expand - namely east and west metro. east province doesn't have the resources and west province doesn't quite see the others as a threat (this changes slightly when yeosang seizes control.)
across the territories it is absolutely unheard of for betas or omegas to hold any position of power. omegas are mostly regarded as breeding stock or a trophy while betas are considered spare bodies and often hold jobs like runners.
runners travel the deadlands (the empty space between territories) to gain intel, trade, intercept other runners and supply runs, etc. they're essentially a jack of all trades that each territory sends before mobilizing anything more lethal. it is not considered an act of aggression to kill a rival runner but rather a natural risk of the position.
did i study a map of korea's topography and agriculture to create the socioeconomics of a dystopian omegaverse society? yeah, i sure did. because i can't ever do anything small. (tbf a lot of the world building was in an effort to avoid this being us/euro-centric)

omega warrior-lord (legacy) yeosang that became so furious with the treatment of omegas across all factions that he stole the throne and became a threat to send a message and all the surrounding territory alpha leaders are on the verge of war with him
caught assassin/spy alpha mingi. mingi was given information that yeosang's heat had to be approaching and he knows that's the only time he can make his move against the renown rebel lord
mingi can smell his heat, it's undeniable, and yet it changes nothing. yeosang is seemingly unaffected, easily disarming and subduing mingi. arms wrenched behind his back, yeosang perched on the back of his thighs, mingi thinks this is a terrible time to get an erection
