Hello gay community. Haphazardly applied orange blush inspired by Trixie Mattel. Purple inspired by I like it. Basic concept from the edible I took around 5:45.

On Sunday night Maria and I watched I Saw the TV Glow and it carved me open like that boxcutter did Owen. Utterly harrowing stuff. It actually made me have a very real crisis about who I am and what kind of transition I’m pursuing. “Am I asking for a radical reduction instead of typical top surgery because it’s what I really want? Or am I just flinching away from totally abandoning my most feminine characteristic?” I decided that no, this isn’t a flinch. If it was, it would be a pretty silly place to draw a line. I know what I want, and I know what I am: transgender. I’m not a woman, and I’m not a man either. I might not be a lesbian, but I’m some kind of dyke. I’m Maria’s wife. I’m a little high right now. I feel pretty good about the future.

ok, i am currently watching the new hbomberguy video and i got to the part with james somerton, and this is actually painful. i cannot believe how fucking creatively bankrupt someone can be. like, does he even watch or engage with the media he makes video essays for? i can't be sure. if he just regurgitates everything, then wtf does this guy even believe? this is so insane to me. i can't imagine making all these videos copying other people's work verbatim, it's all so empty and soulless.

the thing i love about video essays is seeing what others are passionate about talking about. i guess to me, sharing that enthusiasm (especially if it features good analysis) is so satisfying! it says something about you as a person: what you like, what you notice, and what you feel from art. art that has had a strong personal effect on me is part of how i understand my identity. so i guess there's something nearly uncanny valley about a fucking human content machine spitting out videos featuring nothing but other people's thoughts, opinions and observations. it's all so cynical.

and it's made even more upsetting that this guy is, ultimately, a marginalized person standing on the backs of other marginalized people. profit in the name of "queer analysis." it fucking spits in the face of what the queer community should be - we should be looking out for each other. uplifting one another. you'd have to be a real fucking scumbag to treat others this way.

EDIT: i got further in and uh,,, my question "what is this guy even passionate about," was answered! it's hating women. he's a misogynist. wow. fuck this guy with a brick.

EDIT: WHY WOULD HE MAKE AN ATTACK ON TITAN VIDEO IF HE DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO SPELL "SHONEN." THAT'S NOT EVEN REMOTELY IN HIS WHEELHOUSE FFS IM INSANE \

edit: to follow up on anime not being his wheelhouse, apparently he was gonna make a neon genesis evangelion video (despite as recently as 2 weeks ago saying he'd never seen it and didn't understand the watch order) and a revolutionary girl utena video. thank you, harris, for saving us from this fate. good fucking GRIEF

yknow thinking about the concept of “i used to be a lesbian” it’s like

i’m sure i’m seeing it through rose tinted glasses and all, but in the UK, in the 2000s, there was some great underground (and overground, wombling free) lesbian culture. and i loved being a part of it. i loved hanging out in dykey zine spaces listening to slam poetry on the open mic. i loved hitting up the bars on canal street with my equally gay equally plural bestie. i loved the hippie granola vegan cafes. i’m sure i met some terfs but it was never flung in my face, like it was great to be genderfuck, it was part of our culture that some people were butches or he/him lesbians or outright preferred to refer to themselves as men.

but somewhere down the line, terfy attitudes took over, and that open, rebellious, freewheeling space... i don’t know if it still exists, in the same places it did. and i can’t help thinking, when terfs complain about “losing our butches to the transmasc pipeline”... you know, i would have stuck around if you’d let me. all the people you’re “losing” to transmasc identity are people who had previously happily fit into the lesbian community. we’ve always had bois and people who took hormones and people who bound their chests or got the teat yeet. we’ve always had he/him pronoun users and people who didn’t fit in the traditional gender binary. you just suddenly decided we weren’t welcome any more.

I think I can call this finished. The truth is I’m very afraid a lot of the time but I’m trying not to be, so I channeled my terror and frustration into crafts. The unicorn colors correspond to the eight stripes of Gilbert Baker’s original pride flag. The Mountain Goats song “Clemency for the Wizard King” is not about gay people at all but that one line is so potent I had to use it in my gay little project. The monster faces are all copied or adapted from iconic horror images that have haunted me for years. The eyes are just eyes.

I don’t ID as cis or trans or nb to be honest and my love of women (one woman, let’s be real) does feel like gender nonconformity in the most joyous way

I have no further thoughts on this because I’m tired

I finally stopped in at the Stonewall exhibit at the public library and it was really nice. I liked these two photos in particular.
